@Bones Conservative to me is someone that is discreet or cautious in their approach. If you think playing Laumape at 12 is more cautious than playing J Barrett there, so be it.
It's odd, but yes I find the most conservative approach would be playing the proven 12 at 12, rather than the 15 at 12. Zany idea I know.

I agree. I fail to see the logic in @Canes4life s argument here.
You have a choice between playing an AB 12 at 12 or an AB 15/14 at 12.
The punter might opt for the latter on potential while the conservative route is to go with the guy your peers selected for even higher honours than you can offer. Simple really. -
@Bones I see him as a 12 already so that's probably where the confusion lies. Yes it isn't conservative if you are moving a 15 to 12 when there is already an established 12 there, where I'm coming from is that I think J Barrett has enough experience to warrant the tag of being a current 12 who is temporarily keeping the 15 jersey warm for someone else before he hopefully switches back to his more natural position as an inside centre.

I repeat - you're talking Plumtree - it would not be conservative for him to select Barrett at 12. Regardless of how you feel about his playing ability/position.

Here's a question. How many games has JB played at 12 above club/age grade level compared to his experience at 15/14?
My rough count has him at 4 times the experience in the back three and all at higher levels than at 12. -
@Crucial @Bones I'm not comparing levels of rugby, i'm comparing the fact that Jordie Barrett's natural position growing up through age grade & provincial, before being played out of position in Super - was at 12. For all you know J Barrett may have played more minutes overall at 12 compared to Laumape regardless of level played, especially considering Laumape went to league for those early pro years. But if you are comparing Super and International then yes Laumape would be the more conservative option considering he has more minutes in that position at that level.
-
I mean the time’s Barrett played in the midfield he looked fucken clueless
-
@Yeahtheboys that was 13 not 12. Completely different dynamic, but hey if J Barrett ends up being a complete flop at 12 aswell then fuck knows where his best position lies. Maybe after that performance on the right wing, he may end up there. Atleast then he can hide - would be hard though with his giraffe like stature.

Still ignoring the fact that as players go up the rugby tree their ideal position may change.
The ABs really missed a trick not player Mealamu at 7 didn't they?
Many a top level player plays a different position if they go back to their club for example. I've seen loosies play in the backs, props play backrow, wingers play 10 etc etc.
Having a great skillset will give you choice of position at lower levels but the position requirements dictate where you play at higher levels.
Another little question for you. How is JBs international record at 12? Was part of the worst U20s lineup in years IIRC. -
