    Tuesday musings:

given no one ever knows when the team is named, why cant Hansen & Co simply name the team at the same time NZT, regardless of where they are?

England is -13 NZT, what difference would there be between them naming the team at 5am NZT v 6PM NZT on a Thursday (if that was when they decided to name it) not to mention the fact the team sheet must be given to media agencies prior to this with an embargo on releasing anyway (especially if you consider the 5am NZT when it is quite often released)

Given they will know today who their 23 will be barring any training injuries, just makes no sense, no sense at all.

At least they will be naming 23 and not 24.

They won't be repeating 2012. They were bloody good that day, smoked us and we weren't poor.

Basically our entire squad had Norovirus in the week leading up to the 2012 game. We were definitely well below our best.

Don’t forget that a lot of the players had a dose of the Suzies leading into that game as well.
    Took the edge off.

@bones we can all sit here and say the ABs haven’t always played well this year, but by jeez scoring 4 tries in 12 consecutive games is impressive.

    They bring it on themselves.

    Very diplomatic. 😄

Typical Welsh comment on this topic is: "the England Football team are great and I'll support them when Wales isn't playing, ditto the English Rugby League team and of course, Cricket. But I just can't understand why the Pom Rugby team always has so many pricks in it"

    Logical. Over time

    England football > Wales football
    England cricket > Wales cricket
    England league > Wales league

However at Union it’s pretty much much parity over the years with sporadic periods of dominance one way or another = greater rivalry.

It’s just that in comparison we don’t get so easily worked up about it.

Is the symbol '>' meant to signify greater than?

The England cricket team is the England and Wales team. Always has been to my knowledge.

Indeed but I wasn't referring just to the national sides. If you look at the top tier club/county/regional teams the same applies. Glamorgan have won the County Championship for instance but I think only once or maybe twice?

@victor-meldrew Yep we all have out tossers though it's sometimes easy to overlook that when they are playing well for you. Dawson a good example, liked him when he was playing but not when he opened his mouth and not since he's stopped playing.

The whole England > Wales argument is a numbers game, both in numbers of participation and numbers/sums of money available to each team in each sport.

Whilst the England football team had a good run in WC 2018, it would be a stretch to say the England national side is vastly greater than the Wales national side at present.

    Rugby League is a no-brainer.

Glamorgan cricket struggles on the money side of things and certainly in the longer format matches having the weather to complete matches. Too many 4 point draws.

    @catogrande

Worked in Sth Wales for 2 years. The likes of Jason Leonard, Will Carling & Robshaw etc, were regarded as top blokes while the likes of Mike Brown or Matt Dawson were seen as twats.

Personally, I think the Welsh just have a finely developed sense of which players are pricks to lose to...

Oh, and Jonathan "space out wide, space out wide" Davies was regarded as a complete tosser for some reason

    Yep.

Last 3 of 5 speakers at my local club's annual dinner have been English - Jon Bentley, Andy Rippley, Shaun Edwards.

All have delivered heartfelt and honest talks, taken some tough Q&As, and stuck around and stayed over to drink the night away and talk bollocks with the boys.

    Leg Ends.

The dislike of Jonathan Davies by some may be down to his family circumstances rather than his playing career. Won't elaborate but he might not be whiter than white if you get my drift.

Totally agree and was not meant disparagingly. More that the numbers and money argument still holds true in Union but that has not resulted in anything but long term parity. Union is the outlier really.

As expected, Curry has been ruled out of the rest of the Internationals.

Meanwhile there are reports that Tuilagi, Farrell and Hartley all trained apart from the team today on some sort of rehab.

Pretty well known. It's his appallingly-bad commentary, weird relationship with the BBC & the belief it influences the WRU which seems to wind people up.

King Karl to scrum for penalties...

ABs to smash England playing ten man rugby in the wet. All part of the 'tie one hand behind our back' tactic to test /improve facets of play, like in RWC 15 pool game.

Eddie Jones’s side dodged a bullet against South Africa but All Blacks will be a different proposition – although I think the game will be closer than many think

Article from Sean Fitzpatrick in the Grauniad. Interesting - highlights how different rugby was back in 93 compared to now.

As a boy I dreamed of pulling on the New Zealand shirt and running out to face England but in 1993 we lost. It was a turning point for us

Well it is quarter of a century ago so you’d hope it had changed a bit.

Maybe SBW and Goodhue. I hope so, it’s the one combo we haven’t seen yet. In my mind Goodhue is now a lock for 13 and it’s a case of choosing a 12 from SBW, Crotty, Laumape and ALB to partner him. Roughly 12 months to get it right.
