NPC - news, injuries etc

Canterbury hooker Greg Pleasants-Tate has had a recurrence of a neck injury he sustained during the 2016 Super Rugby campaign, which has unfortunately not settled with conservative management. He has been seen by a specialist who has recommended surgery, meaning Pleasants-Tate will be unavailable for the remainder of the 2018 Mitre 10 Cup.

@stargazer Yikes. What happened?
He wore one of the Mako loose forward jerseys!
Currently broken - Squire, Taufua, Fredericks, Miller, Havili and possibly Jed Brown.

I vaguely remember someone already mentioning this (but can't find it). Here's the article from the Ta$man Mako website.
Billy Guyton puts family ahead of footy
Another player hanging up his boots due to concussion.

Good on him - you're a long time retired.

For whoever is interested, some Farah Palmer Cup news. Today, the final round of the round robin was played.
It was a bad day for Taranaki. Not only is their men's team - after their loss to Canterbury - on the brink of relegation, their women's team - that plays in the Championship division for the first time after years of absence from the women's competition - lost 118 - 0 to Wellington! I don't know whether this is a record in the women's competition, but it's a monster score, which illustrates some of the struggles new teams have to go through when added to a competition. Wellington - relegated from the Premiership last year - finished top of the table in the Championship, having lost only one of their six games (to Hawke's Bay). They are the favourites for promotion to the Premiership.
In the Premiership, Auckland Storm suffered another loss, and - having won only one of their six games - this means relegation. After years of utter domination, claiming title after title, this is quite a shock as the team is stacked with Black Ferns. Maybe Auckland should hire Ted for the women's team next season. Canterbury - the winners of today's game against Auckland - finished top of the table in the Premiership with 5 wins out of 6 games.
If the table on the All Blacks website is correct, these are the
Premiership Semi-Finals:
Canterbury v Manawatu
Waikato v Counties ManukauChampionship Semi-Finals:
Wellington v North Harbour
Otago v Hawke's Bay -

I just Received an email and survey about changing the name of Counties from Counties Manukau Rugby Football Union Inc to Counties Rugby Union. I was never a fan of adding Manukau to the name. Unlike other sports we don't represent the whole of the Manukau region. Manurewa, Weymouth, and Beachlands Maraetai are the only clubs I consider Manukau teams. The other Manukau clubs such as Manukau Rovers, Otahuhu, Papatoetoe, East Tamaki and Marist Eastern are all in the Auckland province.
Go real old school snd go for South Auckland Counties ...

so Hoeata's 4 remaining matches of his ban yet to be determined?
Guess he will just miss the 1st 4 games of his club season in 2019? Otherwise lets assume he is only on a single year contract with 'naki, and they go well we wont have him for the 1st 4 games next year, we wont sign him, unlikely anyone else will either?
@Stargazer thats assuming he would make it, as it hasnt been named yet, surely they cant include those games?
-
@taniwharugby That's probably why they say "yet to be determined". There aren't that many Maori locks, and he's been in the team before, so it's very likely he would have been named in the squad. I'll put up an article on the Maori ABs tour soon.
