I just Received an email and survey about changing the name of Counties from Counties Manukau Rugby Football Union Inc to Counties Rugby Union. I was never a fan of adding Manukau to the name. Unlike other sports we don't represent the whole of the Manukau region. Manurewa, Weymouth, and Beachlands Maraetai are the only clubs I consider Manukau teams. The other Manukau clubs such as Manukau Rovers, Otahuhu, Papatoetoe, East Tamaki and Marist Eastern are all in the Auckland province.
Go real old school snd go for South Auckland Counties ...

so Hoeata's 4 remaining matches of his ban yet to be determined?
Guess he will just miss the 1st 4 games of his club season in 2019? Otherwise lets assume he is only on a single year contract with 'naki, and they go well we wont have him for the 1st 4 games next year, we wont sign him, unlikely anyone else will either?
@Stargazer thats assuming he would make it, as it hasnt been named yet, surely they cant include those games?
-
@taniwharugby That's probably why they say "yet to be determined". There aren't that many Maori locks, and he's been in the team before, so it's very likely he would have been named in the squad. I'll put up an article on the Maori ABs tour soon.

@stargazer er, I did mention those words 'yet to be determined' too...
I think it will be a huge cop out if they use the Maori games for his 4 remaining games.

Is it a cop out if he was legitimately going to be selected for the team? I think missing those games is more a 'ban' than missing some club games.
Obviously this depends on whether he was going to be selected. If they were short of locks I could see them selecting him ... if not then no way.

@nepia but there in lies the issue.
You could find someone who would argue he would have been selected on the tour given his experience and possibly being light on players, but his form this seaosn has been such that he likely wouldnt have gone either.
Would DLB have gone on tour too?

No ... he's not Maori.
But. It's down to the coach and whether he would have selected him so I'm sure they'd ask him and he'd have to provide justification if he was going to select him.

It's likely none of the locks used last year will be available for this tour, Hoeata being one of those. So you're looking at the likes of Price, Selby-Rickit etc. Is Pari Pari Parkinson eligible?
He's related to Matua Parkinson ... so yes.

@nepia you could also make the argument that his disiplinary record (long line of dumb shit) cost him his spot, and therefore his 4 games are still to be found elsewhere.
Anyway, my view is the Maori selection should be moot, Maori selection is the icing, he fucked up, doesnt get his icing and his 4 games should be found elsewhere.
