I was surprised to hear the commentator Ian Darke say that this will be the first WC where one of Germany, Argentina or Brazil are not amongst the 4 semi-finalists.
They are by far the most dominant 3 teams in world football history. You would generally expect one of them to be there
The Italians would disagree with you. I'd agree with the Italians.
I forgot about the azzuri. Where have they been lately?......

And yet all the pundits were of the opinion that Sweden were far better.
England looked better against Belguim than Brazil did. Yet they get zero love.

Sweden's path to the finals saw them dispose of The Netherlands and Italy. Since then they've seen off Germany and a decent Swiss team.
I refuse to believe they're rubbish suddenly.

But I was told that the Swedes would be the ones working out a lacklustre England.
It will be interesting to see whether pundits backtrack on them or double down and just go for "they were lucky".

Really know bugger-all about soccer, but a pleasure to watch England and Sweden playing tonight after the Columbia game.
Hard-fought, respect for the ref, great spirit on the field and both teams and managers mingling after the game. Credit to both teams.

You get the sense that Southgate is more than happy with the pundits' views.
