A host of players will get their opportunity to show they are ready for a return to Investec Super Rugby action when the Hurricanes travel north to face the Chiefs in Hawera on Thursday. While a large number of Hurricanes players are involved in test matches during the June international break, head coach Chris Boyd has still managed to name a strong squad for the practice match which will be hosted by the Chiefs. Loose forward Reed Prinsep has been named to lead the 25-man squad in what will be the only hit-out ahead of the side's next Super Rugby match against the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday, June 30. Prinsep will have a number of regular starters with him in the run-on side, including Sam Lousi, Gareth Evans and Julian Savea while there is plenty of depth on a bench which features leading try-scorer Ben Lam along with Chris Eves, Michael Fatialofa and Ihaia West. Boyd expected the Hurricanes to get plenty of positives out of the match as the squad prepares to enter the business end of the season with three round robin matches remaining against the Brumbies (away), Blues (home) and Chiefs (away) before the play-offs.

@arhs They were about the best in fan engagement via social media a few years ago, and they've dropped quite steeply in that respect. Same with the Highlanders. Even the Crusaders, who used to be the worst at it, are better at social media now (at least, FB and Insta, not so much twitter). Canes are the best at it now.

Blackwell is too short for a lock. He's had a start at 6 for Wellington but never did too much. He was called up last year and started a few games when the Canes had a lot of lock injuries. But I'm unsure why they start someone at lock who is far too short rather than having a look at Isaia Walker-Leawere. Maybe Isaia is not fully fit yet.

He was named in the 20 jersey for today's game, so I assume he is fully fit.

I hope Isaia is fully fit. He was the lock that played with Lousi in the Canterbury thrashing last year. That was his last game as he was due to have a planned operation. But this pairing I thought was outstanding. I see Isaia as a perfect impact lock (or maybe even 6 or 8).
And I hope Goosen went well at centre. I would prefer him at center and Jodie back at FB. Or 1st if his brother is out. Please not IHAIA . I would almost give up on these coaches if the start him again.
