@bones I've played against him. Even got punched in the head by his good arm... I'll get my coat
Sounds more like a bad arm to me

@rapido For all that, the bit that confuses me the most is what does Shields bring that England are missing?
Toasters?

@bones said in Exodus 2018:
@mn5 @Paekakboyz I've mentioned it a few times before, broken record but... the pleasant memory is of the first scrum and the ref calling them to engage, our prop yelling "he's not binding ref!". Pure gold.
Can you tell me that story over a beer this Sundee? You can shout....

Gibbes to Waikato, Gibbes to La Rochelle and not to Waikato, Gibbes to Waikato and not to La Rochelle, my goodness, they've finally made up their mind!
Jono Gibbes has been appointed the "Directeur Sportif" of La Rochelle for the next four seasons from November 2018. So it looks like he will coach Waikato first this season and then head off to France.
From what I understand from the media release, Gibbes insisted on honouring his commitment to Waikato (and resolving some family issues while in NZ).

If Gibbes signed a 2-yr contract with Ulster until the 2019/20 season and then released him on compassionate grounds to return to NZ they would be perfectly within their rights to insist he can't then sign a contract with another European club.
Yep. Not a good look from Gibbes. Refused to talk to media when the La Rochelle news leaked whilst he was at Ulster saying he was returning to NZ for family reasons.
In short, a load of bollocks.

Reading that article, Julian Savea hasn't signed yet, but they expect him to sign him "in the hours to come". The deadline for signings is apparently on Friday.
I'm not sure why it would be a "sad end to a once great ab". He's had a great AB career and is now going to cash in. His career isn't over yet; it's just not continuing here in NZ. It's sad for his fans in NZ, but not for him. Every AB career ends at some point, but he's had a pretty decent number of caps and a World Cup medal.

If he delays any longer it will hurt his value. A couple of years in Toulon, another NH contract and maybe a couple in Japan to finish will set him up for life

Good for him, he has been great for the AB's and Canes.
But he is struggling to make the Canes starting 15, let alone the AB's. Why would you not cash in?
