Highlanders vs. Hurricanes

@pukunui @Toddy There's just nothing in that.
The guy he's tackling is at his knee level when he's hit him and he has no chance of pulling out.
Haven't seen what you guys are suggesting on Perenara, but IMO that one doesn't deserve a yellow and I'll be amazed and disappointed if he gets banned for that.

I do actually agree with you. The way i want it to be reffed that is a penalty at most. However, we are repeatedly told by Sanzaar that the head is off limits and any direct contact with the head with force is Red. Contact with shoulder and ending up on the head tends to be yellow.
I will be surprised if he doesn't get cited for it. Actually no i won't, the consistency is fucked so we probably won't hear a thing about it.
He is in deep shit for the perenara clean out though. That is shoulder to face.So frustrating from an AB perspective.

On Squire. Really? Play that at full speed and tell me he's intentionally hit Savea high.
Poor call to give him a yellow IMO.
What the hell? That's a card? That's a penalty?

Most frustrating thing about that is that AB's won't get let off by refs in tests (especially in the NH), but they might be used to a different standard of refereeing.
-
@pukunui I haven't seen anything like that hit by Squire result in a ban, so hopefully that won't occur.
In all honesty, I don't see too many bad calls by the judiciary once they're looking at all slo-mo angles - as well as playing them in normal time to anticipate what people actually could have done to avoid contact with the head.
Haven't seen the other contact on Perenara you guys are talking about.

And even worse when your Akira pom poms are showing from under your tutu?

The problem i have with the citing/judiciary end is that the incidents are considered to have met the red card threshold yet the player escapes during the game with nothing, a penalty or a yellow only.
If it meets the red card threshold it should be dealt with during the game where the team on the receiving end of whatever it was gets the benefit.If not, then lets raise the red card threshold back to where it used to be where it was mainly reserved for actual dirty play not just tackles gone wrong.
-
@pukunui I agree with you.
But, I'd tend to take a different line. If someone indulges in dirty play let's ban them in a considered way, without spoiling the game for everyone else -especially the people who watch rugby.
Allow them to be replaced in the match, but ban them from returning for longer.

@chris-b looks more like a cheap shot to me, rather than a player going for a genuine tackle.
In all honesty, I can't see anything abnormal in that - Squire seems to be unlucky to me. @Rapido seems to agree.
No doubt it will be subject to enormous scrutiny, so we'll find out what the judiciary think in due course.

The other thing that hasn't been mention so much: what the fuck was Savea thinking throwing a punch like that in this day and age of tv cameras. He was bloody lucky the camera moved away.
Having watched the wide replay a couple of times it does appear that RR is between Savea and Squires head so unless he manage to aim well im not sure he landed it. A brain snap like that would have to also be a black mark against any slim chance he had of ever being an AB again. -
Thought Luke Whitelock was pretty good there.
Lam - you need more work rate if you want higher honours.

@toddy Yep. I wouldn't have given it a yellow, but they have.
I disagree, but I'll have to suck that up.
Hope they don't extend to a red for that incident, but if they do I'll have to suck that up as well.
At least he's not a Crusader.
Yellow was more than enough for that incident. I thought Jules should have gone too.
But the cleanout on TJP doesn't look good. IIRC he's reaching for the ball and Squire torpedoes into him, shoulder directly connecting with the face. Would not be surprised if he cops 1 - 2 weeks for it, amazed the officials didn't even look at it again.
I won't lie though, I've never been a fan of Squire. He is niggly, often puts in cheap shots that could seriously cost us one day, and he has gone missing against the top teams basically every test he's started. He's a flat track bully.

But the camera's missed what Julian might or might not have done. The refs assumed he was up to no good and ruled out the try. Poor reffing really although there was a forward pass that was missed.
But Canes were out-muscled in the 2nd half. Plumtree has a lot of work to do. And Ricky looks like he needs a good rest. Hopefully he gets IT over the nest few weeks
