Highlanders vs. Hurricanes

Entertaining game even if some of the rugby wasn't the best.
Canes pack got bullied for the second week in a row. He will get shit on here but i thought Ardie was the only one that stood up.
Naholo showed why he is an AB and Lam isn't. He was anonymous as was Laumape, TJP, J Savea and NMS.
Jordie and BB not much better.
Ricky ricky probably the worst of the bunch.Think Squire will be very lucky if he doesn't get sat down for a few weeks. That tackle that led to the Savea punch is a straight red these days. But again the bullshit inconsistency of reffing strikes.
Just on the "punch", from that wide shot it didn't look like he was punching anywhere near Squires head because RR was in the way. Did he punch him in the guts? I think i saw the first Squire clean out that people have mentioned but didnt catch a replay. Anyone notice what time it occured? Not that it matters but Jordie wasn't offside for that non try. Ball deflected off bus who was retiring but there was no ruck. Ball went back to Jordie who ran away with it.
AB Frizell got all of 7mins. I stilldon't know how the fuck he gets in ahead of Akira.

On Squire. Really? Play that at full speed and tell me he's intentionally hit Savea high.
Poor call to give him a yellow IMO.

Just found the squire clear out at 11:30mins.
He is fucking gone for that. Should have been straight red also if they are being consistent with other cards this year. How the hell did the tmo miss it? The ref even penalised him.Considering that Shag has already said in public that stupid behaviour has to go and that he is disappointed that 'his' players are involved, that will be a black mark against Squire.
Maybe bringing back Messam would fill any gap from suspension? He is playing as well as any other 6/8 in the country at the moment and has enough experience to slide back into the AB camp.
-
@pukunui itโs not the first time the Canes pack has been bullied this year, not just the Saders game last week, but if you think back to the Sharks game, they were totally owned by the Sharks pack, and even in home games against the Sunwolves and Reds for long periods they were more than matched..but when you have got some rock star backs, they can get you out of a jam.

Since when does it need to be intentional ?
Swinging arm to the head is meant to be red these days. Well according to what they tell us the rules are now anyway.
I don't agree with it and my main gripe is with the inconsistency of the application either by the ref or the citing officer. -
@pukunui @Toddy There's just nothing in that.
The guy he's tackling is at his knee level when he's hit him and he has no chance of pulling out.
Haven't seen what you guys are suggesting on Perenara, but IMO that one doesn't deserve a yellow and I'll be amazed and disappointed if he gets banned for that.

I do actually agree with you. The way i want it to be reffed that is a penalty at most. However, we are repeatedly told by Sanzaar that the head is off limits and any direct contact with the head with force is Red. Contact with shoulder and ending up on the head tends to be yellow.
I will be surprised if he doesn't get cited for it. Actually no i won't, the consistency is fucked so we probably won't hear a thing about it.
He is in deep shit for the perenara clean out though. That is shoulder to face.So frustrating from an AB perspective.

What the hell? That's a card? That's a penalty?

Most frustrating thing about that is that AB's won't get let off by refs in tests (especially in the NH), but they might be used to a different standard of refereeing.
-
@pukunui I haven't seen anything like that hit by Squire result in a ban, so hopefully that won't occur.
In all honesty, I don't see too many bad calls by the judiciary once they're looking at all slo-mo angles - as well as playing them in normal time to anticipate what people actually could have done to avoid contact with the head.
Haven't seen the other contact on Perenara you guys are talking about.

And even worse when your Akira pom poms are showing from under your tutu?

The problem i have with the citing/judiciary end is that the incidents are considered to have met the red card threshold yet the player escapes during the game with nothing, a penalty or a yellow only.
If it meets the red card threshold it should be dealt with during the game where the team on the receiving end of whatever it was gets the benefit. If not, then lets raise the red card threshold back to where it used to be where it was mainly reserved for actual dirty play not just tackles gone wrong.
-
@pukunui I agree with you.
But, I'd tend to take a different line. If someone indulges in dirty play let's ban them in a considered way, without spoiling the game for everyone else -especially the people who watch rugby.
Allow them to be replaced in the match, but ban them from returning for longer.

@chris-b looks more like a cheap shot to me, rather than a player going for a genuine tackle.
In all honesty, I can't see anything abnormal in that - Squire seems to be unlucky to me. @Rapido seems to agree.
No doubt it will be subject to enormous scrutiny, so we'll find out what the judiciary think in due course.
