Yeah, case in point about how long the stain lasts: Trevor Chappell. And that was something that was actually legal. I actually feel a bit sorry for him. He was probably thinking, at last, my black moment has been eclipsed and I can fly under the radar. And then every article says 'not since the underarm incident...'
At the very least some senior heads need to roll. This current Aussie team clearly has some major culture issues that a one match ban/fine isn't nearly going to address.

@rapido the only way i could see any of it being plausible is the "no senior player meeting" bit. The rest insinuates that Bancroft did it off his own bat, Smith knew but didn't orchestrate, and only took to "blame" to cover a young fulla, out of the goodness of his heart.
That's a bit of a stretch

Bancroft must be a good actor then, he certainly came across as genuine during the interview. And the footage of him freaking out and hiding the tape.
Sooner this gets fully aired the better. Has got murkier by the day as to who led or was involved in the planning. You'd think Bancroft would have fallen on his sword if it was actually his idea, independent of any input by Smith or other players.
Boof staying silent is the really interesting part - but no doubt we'll know more soon.

Surely it would have been less of a mess of it was just Bancroft, implicating smith and other senior players makes it a much bigger mess.

I did like the way Smith threw Bancroft under the bus. Front a press conference and turn to the young bloke to your right and ask him to explain himself. Good leadership.

Well according to Cricinfo they don't play another Test until December (though there are unconfirmed reports they are going to Bangladesh at some point before then). Which puts them in a bit of a bind.
A six month ban would see them miss ODIs and T20s in England. That seems the bare minimum. One year would put them out of the home series against India. To me that seems like an overreaction given the public shaming they have been subject to.
And I'd suggest no ban will ever be enough to stop the booing.
