Blaming the ref gets you nowhere, over enough games it all evens out. At the end of the day the most important thing are the points in the bank. If you don't end the game with more than the opposition you lose.
I respect Hansen for never publicaly criticising the ref, even after the Lions clanger he kept his cool. Refs are human and make mistakes, we all like to look for excuses when things don't go our way.
We are told as kids to always play to the refs whistle whether we like it or not.
I really don't like the message he is sending to young kids watching. The swearing and antics is offensive and should be dealt with by World Rugby IMO.

Not a big deal, but I'm wondering how Owens' performance wasn't the same as a scatty frenchman's appraisal
I mean sure the game flowed and all that but you put a Poite or Garces face on that reffing display and he'd get roasted.
No?
Awarding tries and then changing? bloke stops a certain try and nothing? even the Retallick thing?
still no?
ok fair enough
Owens didn't actually award that try. He just blew for a penalty and people thought it was a try. Owens has always been a bit weird in the way he awards penalties and sometimes points his arm the other way and then turns around.

Just watched the game again. DMac made one big mistake which was the intercept pass. He was pretty good otherwise and created the Ben Smith try. Looks like he's going to be one of those players whose errors are going to be magnified by the public. I wouldn't feel comfortable seeing him start a game against a NH team or even SA but he is being unfairly criticised for his two performances against the Wallabies. BB made a lot of blunders as well but nobody is calling him up for them
-
@hydro11 dunno, he got down on his knee, blew like a try, pointed to where BBBR has likely grounded it...why did he not say that when the ABs got up congratulating one another on a try, when they were walking back, when BB was lining up he even went back and told him to hold as they were looking at it, not hey BB this is a penalty kick not conversion, why has your team gone to half way, that confident in your boot even when we hadnt taken a single PK in the game, then when he got the TMO to look at it? All evidence points to him awarding a try.
Reckon it was a complete shambles.

@taniwharugby my reply is superfluous due to yours

I did see a wee "fuksake" escape Shag after the Retallick TMO debacle ... but in comparison ... It's bringing the game into disrepute really.

@booboo Cheika did a lot more than blame the ref. He pretty much accused Owens of match fixing which was a disgraceful comment. He was interviewed by one of the Fox Sports guys post match and said that the "script had already been written". When asked to clarify this comment at the PC, he then said that he couldn't elaborate on that as it would land him in hot water.

I think I saw Shag mouth fuck sake re Ben Smiths non-try, not like him.
Oh. Was it BFA's? Knew I saw it somewhere. Was remarkable in it's rarity.
A great shot was the split screen with Klownboy leaping around like a performing seal and whilst Shag smirked and scratched his nose at the camera.

Going to the TMO just because he might find something wrong? Fuck this bullshit.
Yeah. Like that try we were denied last year because of a supposed obstruction on Savea.
Not direct comparisons Nick

I like to put the boot into Cheika as much as the next bloke but the script being written could mean anything. The narrative is that the All Blacks were heavy, heavy favourites. So he could just be suggesting that Owens didn't want to change the script in that regard. That Owens may think that the only way the Wallabies could win is if he had given them the rub of the green.
Personally I thought he did give them the rub, how a team can be so dominant at scrum time and not win a single scrum penalty is beyond me.

I was watching a replay and wanted a gif of Aaron's awesome sidestep of Hooper but this was more entertaining:

Yep. When he went down on one knee, bobbed his head looking looking, then pointed and blew the whistle, I thought he's seen a fair grounding, try awarded. Was super shocked when well after the fact it was suddenly oh, penalty.

@ACT-Crusader was same gamble a FRenchie made in the 2007 RWC final.
Dimitri Szarzewski
(2011 ... there was no RWC in 2007 ... )

Stupid, stupid play from Hooper. Insane.
What option did he have?
Not charging around and conceding a penalty. Line up the next play and try and tackle someone?
After the buzzer. Riiiiiight...
It was before the buzzer. It won't get you there...
ABs fell over the line there. Played poorly, Wobs played really well and took their chances. Good game of footy.
I don't think Aus played well at all

despite being triggered often, I can't actually not like Cheika that much.
(my hypocritical criticisms not withstanding - I don't agree with his game time demeanour but he's obviously ok with it so, meh)
His team had lost a cracker they should have won.
By far the most commendable attribute of anyone on tele or in the media is 100% honesty, and Cheik has that.
Thought he was reasonable in his press conference (Hooper too) and actually I reckon he'd be great value talking rugby over a beer or two.
Aussies do that to you I reckon - can be equal parts dickhead and top fella all at the same time....;)
