Hurricanes v B&I Lions

Reminded me of a NZ Super rugby derby. Lots of attack but a lot of defensive pressure.
Henderson an outstanding game. I thought he was unfortunate that Joseph lifted that leg and it was over after that and a clear YC in these times.
Good to see Laumape really step it up. Aso who I don't rate that highly because he's usually erratic, was very good tonight. Showed some nice touches.
Pretty disappointing from the Canes tight forwards and their discipline.
Some better attack from the Lions trying to keep the ball alive a bit more, but periods of ponderous play also. Impressed with Nowell again. Tipuric, Stander again very good.
Well done both side.
Also I didn't think the ref was too bad. Lots of niggle and chat from both sides. Quite the physical contest with both sides living on the edge, but under the circumstances I thought he tried to keep it flowing.

Poite was outstanding. Proper ref.
WTF are you on mate? Seriously.
He was inconsistent as all hell, terrible display.
Made more random calls in favour of the Lions ... therefore Lions fans rate him " proper"
It was just me. I'm only one person. No exaggerating now.

Throwing the ball away after penalties, diving off their feet at rucks, living offside, not rolling away from the tackled player, spear tackling defenders at the ruck, pulling back players off the ball.
Plenty of examples. -
Thought half back play from Canes was poor particularly TTT who was awful, the youngster who came on was a huge improvement. Jane looked so much better than NMS. Don't know which irks me more Poirot or the whining Lion's players, Best and Biggar in particular. Good news is I think the holding onto the ball after penalties will be noted by ref for next week, Loved Laumape, third test perhaps? Jordie blew hot and cold, you would think it opens the door wide for Naholo.

Plenty of examples. In fairness, I think the Lions might have been guilty of one or two of those as well.....

How could you tell? Or do the red invisibility cloaks only work on refs?

Laumape's gotta be on the bench Saturday. Jordie certainly grew into the match, not a bad little debut at 10 for him, seemed to really take charge
Thought he looked good at 10
At least he can cover 10,15,4,5 from the bench. -

He should be closer in. Not a 15. I may have mentioned that once or twice.
Laumape could cause havoc off the bench.
-
What I liked about Jordie at 10 is that his extra height did make a difference with the rushing defence and he was able to make that looping skip pass to the outside channel which did create space.
Long term I think he's a 2nd 5 in my opinion.
-
Jordie definitely grew into the match, but he's a long way from being capable of coming off the bench against first tier opposition.

@MN5 they just cry on a forum instead
Or from from the commentary box.
Yes. Yes I truely was that offended by Gavin Hastings' ref-blaming crybabyness after the1/4 final.
2 years on ........ I remember! Gav, you fucking disgrace.
-
@antipodean So who would be your 23 jersey for Saturday?
-
@MiketheSnow
It seems you Lions fans don't like being accused of cheating. Funny, your coach seems happy to dish out those sorts of accusations.By the way. Just because cheating gets penalised doesn't mean it's not cheating.

Haha, that's what the Aussie fans would say about Richie 😀

@MiketheSnow

16.7(c) When the ball has been clearly won by a team at a ruck and the ball is available to be played the referee will call "Use it!" after which the ball must be played within five seconds. ...
Five seconds... it seems like an eternity when we're not used to it being used to the limit every single time - but it does seem they're within their rights. Fuckers.
At least the hugging of the ball after penalty given to slow the game down has been noticed. -
