Robertson should focus on what's in front of him

Honestly, it's almost like he's looking for miracle cures or get rich schemes. He should speak to any number of England supporters who saw a procession of RL converts stinking up the England team a few years back.

I just don't get this approach. He was supposed to be some bloke with a long-term vision and a reputation for painstaking building an integrated, solid team with a great attitude when things got tough. Seen fuck all of that so far.

It's just lazy. And therefore disappointing

I get the first year nerves and inexperience, I really do.

I just don't get how a bloke so prepared, so wanting the job, with overwhelming media/public support and with the security of a 4-yr contract is thinking this way.

Didn't he say something to the effect of him not having done the preparation during the first few tests after having a year to prepare?

Possibly. But with zero experience in Test rugby, you can argue it was always going to difficult to prep properly in his first few Tests regardless. Not the case now so I'm hoping for some real change this season

I think the first few rounds of Super Rugby have proven that Damian McKenzie and Beauden Barrett are indeed comfortably the two best 10s in the country, and their best position may well be fullback.

There is nothing below them that will be ready by 2027, so for that reason alone, the Mo'unga conversation will and should continue. Whether he starts is another question, but if DMac was to do his ACL (which he has before, and keep in mind he himself will be 32), you're looking at washed up, 36 year-old Beauden Barrett starting at 10 at the World Cup.

Godfrey has been nice, but has some rounding out to do, and is at best a prospect for the 2026 EOYT IMO. The rest of the young 10s have been a massive let down.

@Bones Low bar. I like Robinson, and he has been a nice surprise for the Highlanders, but he has made one line break, and beaten one defender in 247 minutes of rugby... don't really remember him sending guys flying through holes either.

We have gone from who the fuck is Taine Robinson. To that guy is pretty bloody good.

Interestingly in a conversation about loosies on the Devlin podcast yesterday, Nigel Yalden was talking up Sean Withy as an option. Saying his style and work rate is like what we had with Cane.

@Bones yeah the fact he kicked it 55m in the air under pressure was pretty good, it just didn't go out. I feel like these days they would have just run the minute off the clock without kicking anyway.

I can't stand these late game dinky kicks of recent years.

That makes me think that it's weird how he was vilified for that but Bachop wasn't for this kick that didn't go out that led to the try from the end of the world.

Also, on the general theme of the thread the attacks on Robertson are getting a bit silly, it's not like his whole focus is on league converts. At least he did one good thing this week and pulled his employee in line over his obsession for the overrated 10 playing in Japan.

Would not be surprising if Mounga shuns New Zealand altogether.

Who wouldn’t ? He’s apparently the difference between a great AB side and an average one. That’s a lot of pressure

How many more tests did he play?

And I do recall some pre-internet pre-Radio Sport (it was 1994) angst from the Flat Earth society.

@Nepia What I mean by that is he may go for a longer contract or even go to France.

And apparently the Hoskins Sotutu non selection chat was tiresome....at least he was eligible for selection.

That was his first for the ABs and then he played four more after that.

I've just looked at the ticket prices for the NZ-France test in Hamilton. To sit in the same area as I do for Chiefs games will cost me $180. This isn't even in the main stand and is uncovered. Fuck that!

Bit rough on Perofeta who has only had less than a half from the bench - and looked lively

If he had opportunity to leave in the offseason and didn't take it (I really don't know, you would hope that the NZRFU could make that happen in order to get another player with AB potential in play during SR), then it's his own fault. Madness that he is at the Blues where he barely gets a run

He's just come back from injury.
