How Fihaki was selected in front of Stevenson I will never know.
Pure speculation but perhaps his move was already signalled and there was no point picking him?
I don't think they would have picked him for the All Blacks XV if that was the case.

Shame about Stevenson going, (say the same about anything that takes away depth) but I maybe not as gut wrenched as a few. I always thought he was a bloody good 15 with a good punt, but maybe seemed to go missing big times in quite a few games. Very much like Akira Ioane type player, perhaps had everything but that last 2% in mind department? Just my take, so don't shoot me. I honestly thing Chiefs will be well served with ENS at 15, but I not really a Chiefs man so obviously not deep into it.
Stevenson and ENS are both better than Fihaki and Reece. Reece has had ample opportunities but is a flake under the highball and lacks the pace to be an international winger plus he's a basically a crim that got two free passes.
The double standards of these coaches boggles the mind.
Hindsight is wonderful aye. IIRC, not many were questioning Reece's inclusion this year based on his form in Super Rugby.

Many questioned his inclusion for the EOYT though. He had a fairly average RC.

Good point (same could be said about Tele'a) but was Stephenson getting touted as a replacement? This year has been a bit of a blur to me because of the Sotutu kerfuffle.

I think Stevenson has been well on the outer since Fozzie put him there

Don’t think he has what it takes to be an AB winger. A bit of a one season wonder.
Doesn't assault his missus or drunkenly drive cars into garages.

Didn't play great rugby on tour either. No gas

The messages the coaches are sending to the players is the problem here.
That’s two next level players (who both might have strong international capability) leaving in two weeks.
Something’s a bit rotten if you’ve got players giving up and bolting like this. From a Chiefs perspective I’m pissed as Stevenson is a great piece after being very rocks and diamonds, but the Plummer one is more concerning. Of course, this is after losing Akira and (rumored) Sotutu.
These coaches need to make an effort to get out of their Crusader bubble as they are contributing to the reduction in player quality.

Based on evidence it would appear Razor's vaunted man management skills are significantly overstated

The critique from Sir Graham at his first interview was to get broader coaching experience - ideally overseas, out of the Canterbury bubble. That didn't happen - and it can be absolutely invaluable to a coach.

Reckon Fihaki was probably Razor's bid for an inspired pick, praying to every god that he would look a genius even though there was only like one game where he even looked quality in SR.
Nareki was robbed.
So were Stevenson, Nanai-Seturo and even Naholo. They were all better than Fihaki in Super. Fihaki was well down the pecking order, crazy the fact he was called up at all.

Players heading overseas is as old as the sun. It’s hardly a new crisis. I remember schuster Gallagher and Ridge back in the day.

It is ok, they're were from the smaller and far less important North Island..

This is the sort of response you get when I don't read the thread.

I'm not sure, given they chose Mark Hammett as assistant coach, there is much that can outrage Highlanders* any more.
*Ooops, nearly typed Huglanders.
