My team for the next test……
Latham
Young
KW
RR
Mitchell
Phillips
Blundell
Smith
Henry
Southee
O’RourkeConway gone. We can’t keep carrying him.
Chance for Young at home, give him the next two tests at least.
KW is KW
Ravindra needs to put the dumb shit away, some shit cricket from him to get out like he did.
Mitch needs to remember it’s England.
Phillips will have more chance of a bigger score batting one spot up.
Blundell there cos there’s no one else.
Pacers all did ok and created chances, provided there is a shitload of fielding drills during the week we should be better in that department.
Yeah Mitch Hay is worth a chance good wk and a good bat,
He can’t go any worse than Blundell.Blundell's batting has been poor and his keeping untidy. Hay averages 47 in first class cricket - I'd be very tempted to make the swap.
I'd give Will Young a game ahead of Devon and probably bring in Santner for Southee.
I doubt any of these things will happen for the next test.
The wheels absolutely fell off in the 1st test. With England 71/4 in their first innings we were in a commanding position and Brook should've been caught shortly after. The rest was a complete shambles about which most of the team should be embarassed and donating their match fees to charity!
That's what is so frustrating! We had played so well after losing the toss, and then we just dropped nearly every fucking catch after that. That's why we can't really read too much into anything else other than the obvious changes you guys are talking about, we should have won that test comfortably but you won't win a single game dropping 8 catches per innings.
Testify!

Not sure about that. We would’ve made it more competitive and yes the dropped catches had a big impact, but we still looked a little brittle batting in that second innings. Even with a small lead or about evens, I still would trust a couple in our top order to make the most of it.

@ACT-Crusader 70 odd for 5 with their two best players back in the pavilion chasing 350? England were toast if we caught Brook and all the other chances after that. I stand by my comment.
-
So Blundell wont be dropped and unlikely Southee, meaning a incredibly unlucky Smith will probably make way for Satnav. urgh

As expected. No way Stead/Williamson were going to drop Southee or Blundell one Test into a 3 test series

I’m not saying you’re wrong but just pointing out that half of those chances involved Brook, so if you caught him early, those other catching opportunities are gone and all of a sudden you “only” miss four catches rather than eight..

With the benefit of time to cool down, that loss feels less about the quality of the side and more about execution on the day. Having Hay keeping wicket or Young opening probably doesn't change the result - Philips and Latham dropped most of the catches.
If we catch better, they're 70/5 trailing by 280 with one more wicket exposing the tail. Totally different game, and probably one we win easily.
I agree with dropping Blundell, pushing Phillips up to 6 and bringing in Young. Not as convinced on bringing in Santner.. I think Phillips is ready to be the frontline spinner, with Rachis providing some part time overs. Stead's conservatism frustrates me, both in terms of selection and in terms of how we're using the players we do select.
Anyway, I'm quietly confident going into the basin, but maybe we've just given their top order a chance to get into form anh confident and will get blown away, but I feel like a small improved in catching (for all the drops, none of them were really tough chances, so a small improvement would see most if not all of them caught) and I think we're ahead.
Our chances in the WTC were basically cooked already, but we in theory had a path if other results went our way, but that's gone now.

I thought we were a chance if we won 2-1, is that not the case ?

Huh, you're right. We can even finish top of the table still if we win 2-1 and everything else falls our way.
-
Yeah we are still a chance for the big dance.
If you want to waste even more time of your employer’s, a decent little predictor to play around with….
-
Damn, now we need to win both our games and rely on results going our way.

Not sure what it will take to get the teams to speed up the over rates, but the penalty is thoroughly deserved by both teams.
Australia missed out on the final we won because of over rates. That was sweet.

Not looking good for the next 3 matches.
Maybe this is where you hit the WWW bit?
Yes, could pick it up at the second letter of the Welsh town rather than the 6th. That would be good.
So who do we need to win in the Aus V Ind series to give us the best chance of making the WTC final? That is a very different question to who we would like to play in the final of course.
