2004 was the last divisive team selection...
How Rush was selected to start over Tuiali'i for those Pom tests still baffles me.....
Mose had all the talent in the world, was big enough, just never cracked on did he? what a waste.
Rush was perfect for 2004. He had a 1 year job and he did it.
I do recall Rush going missing in a couple of big tests vs OZ (in Sydney) and the Boks....
Jokes aside, I do remember Rush having an excellent Super 12 season in 2004 and with Henry starting out and there being no real certainty at no8 going into the 2004 season - with both JC and Rodders sharing the duties throughout 2003, he went with his man.
That 2004 season was interesting when it came to loose forwards. Mose debuted but got limited opportunities. Rush made his comeback. Henry also had JC, Rodders, Newby, Holah, McCaw, Gibbes, feature. Then that Baabaas EOYT game he used Kaino and Bates.

Bates made Rush look good, never knew he was the brother of that fast bowler from Auckland though.
You can put Tuiali'i and Lauaki in the same boat in terms of underachieving in the black jersey if you ask me. Those two at 6 and 8 at their very best would have been terrifying to come up against.

I like how we've gone full strength (or close to it).
Mass rotation generally ends up with a messier game, constant improvement is much more likely with the same team week to week.
Jeez Romano is lucky though, I didn't think he deserved to even be in the squad. Pretty much lost the crusaders 1/4 final on his own with a missed tackle and a yellow card within the first 10 minutes of the game.
He has put on a lot of weight this year, probably at the request of the selectors, but it doesn't appear to be the good type of weight.
-
Yeah Romano is looking more "club rugby" player every time I see him.
I think @Canes4life will definitely refute this being a full strength team with his boy Ardie not in the starting line up though, shame on you for suggesting it.

Firstly, sorry mods, but this new board sucks ass. Scroll city and too much white space. Anyway, I must be getting old.. opps, yes I am. lol
As for the team, why the fuck are they picking Izzy on the wing, that's ridiculous, he's not a bloody winger. You can't tell me we can't pick a specialist winger in the side. Surely Ben to wing and Izzy to fullback. I mean he won't embarass us but I like Izzy's kicking at the back, and Ben is a great winger. Don't know why Hansen continually pisses about with the back three. Don't need another '99 thanks.
Yes you're getting old if you're still comparing what happens this season to something 17 years ago. Things have moved on just a tad....
Given Skudder and Naholo, both of which have been starting wingers are out, it makes sense that we are using two guys that know the systems and are playing well

If you go into your profile you can turn off the scrolling and go back to pagination, and also change the skin if the default is too much white. Let me know if you can't find the options.

Funnily enough one of the best tests either of them played for the ABs was actually when they started together with McCaw at openside. 2005 EOYT vs Ireland and I thought Lauaki had turned a corner in terms of his work rate. He did a lot of grunt work in that game opening it up for McCaw to wreak havoc at the breakdown.

Has PT effectively been dropped? Featured thru-out the Welsh series, now unsighted.
Have to try and find some drama during our Platinum Golden era of AB success...

No Pantera and no Lavanini. Couple of big losses, injuries?
Yep, both injured. Montero is a big unit and it would've been a good test for our back 3

well, I'm excited about this game.
Going down to the Tron in our annual road trip, watch out for me on the terraces, I'll be with a few thousand of my closest feral Waikato brethren dressed in Black and supporting. Can't bloody wait, weather will be excellent but cold, ABs to keep the streak going against the Argie menace

It seems PT has been dropped. He rode the pine in the first two tests against Wales (our bench shone as we kicked clear late in each game). Got the arse for the third Wales game (Romano and Squire) and for the Bledisloes (Squire on the bench for both). Squire has come in the bench in three 20-40 point thrashings so he must be enjoying test footy.
I am a big PT fan, and I loved how he shifted bodies in the tight in 2014. I hope his time will come against the Boks next weekend. But he's now not played any top footy since mid-July.
I saw him in the Tron on Wednesday morning looking filthy downcast tiny sample. He have known by then that he was axed from the 23 and playing NPC this weekend. He had an attractive girlfriend-type bird with him, so maybe they were just fighting.
-
If she was attractive, then she would be bat shit crazy, so yeah likely just fighting about something inane.
You'd think the selectors have a plan for him. They love a bloke with the "raw ingredients" and he has that plus some. I'd say he has some work-ons and will get a chance to show that he's improved those areas in the near future.
