I hope future Olympic Opening Ceremonies focus much more on, you know, sport.
It's about the host country. So there's no surprise Paris' would be a bit out there for people whose cultural highlight is a NFL halftime show.

Missed an absolute trick not having Grace Jones sing La Vie En Rose
I figured Gaga was hired on her performance in a star is born. Her song was shit last night.
-
@MiketheSnow They should have had Grace Jones parachuting off the Eiffel Tower. 😉

T-Mac cleans up in his heat easily beating the former Olympic champ in the Men’s single skulls. Emma Twigg up at 8.30pm.

Is Twigg expected to be a medal chance?

Not favourite for the gold at 37 but hopefully she medals.
Lovely swim by Erica Fairweather, she is up against 7 time Olympic Gold medalist Katie Ledecky in the final tonight. She qualified third behind American Ledecky, and Aussie Titmis. Hopefully she can pick up a medal. First women's swimming medal since 1952 if she does apparently.

What time is the final?

6.25am our time I think. Not sure when she is specifically on though.

Kiwi girls are romping home in the last 200m to win their heat in the double skulls after being behind for the entire race
Their rate in the last half was noticeable. Well managed to run over the Brits too.

Didn't seem at all concerned, had an extra gear when it mattered. Impressive how they put the hammer down in the final 200m. Do you know who the favourites are in the event?
-
@canefan Hard to tell. Could easily be one of Norway, NZ, USA, AUS. Possibly Romania too given they're reigning champs.
edit - may have overestimated Oz given the French just beat them and they looked like they'd done as much as they could at the end.
And then the Norwegians prove me wrong by rowing like they threw an oar. Romanians looked very impressive.

Boomers win by 12. Impressive
It was a good win in the end. They did miss Exum and his stability with the ball though. Lots of turnovers.
Jack McVeigh made a real difference.

McVeigh was a real spark plug. Seemed to instill belief in the rest of the team when things for tight
