A good opening ceremony is enjoyable

    This tried way too hard.

At least with the LA Olympics SoFi Stadium has a roof

I hope future Olympic Opening Ceremonies focus much more on, you know, sport.

Really felt for them with the weather

    Unique concept and location

    Showed Paris off really well

They'd obviously practiced and spent a lot of money on it

Great light show on the Eiffel Tower, but went on far too long

Very odd choice of torch bearers and the boat trip back to the Louvre was far too long

Way too much dancing and LGBAlphabet mincing around

Missed an absolute trick not having Grace Jones sing La Vie En Rose

Did I mention way too much dancing. Really hope the 'athlete' dancers are better than this bunch otherwise we're in for a dud

Cotter worth every penny of the BBC Licence Fee

He could make the phone book interesting, informative, and funny

Puts into perspective how overrated Lineker is

Will be doing this for the Closing Ceremony

    Watching the highlights

Think we all can all empathise with Celine

I had 'Stiff Person's Syndrome' after that 4 1/2 hrs

It's about the host country. So there's no surprise Paris' would be a bit out there for people whose cultural highlight is a NFL halftime show.

I figured Gaga was hired on her performance in a star is born. Her song was shit last night.

@MiketheSnow They should have had Grace Jones parachuting off the Eiffel Tower. 😉

Is Twigg expected to be a medal chance?

Not favourite for the gold at 37 but hopefully she medals.

Lovely swim by Erica Fairweather, she is up against 7 time Olympic Gold medalist Katie Ledecky in the final tonight. She qualified third behind American Ledecky, and Aussie Titmis. Hopefully she can pick up a medal. First women's swimming medal since 1952 if she does apparently.

Their rate in the last half was noticeable. Well managed to run over the Brits too.

Didn't seem at all concerned, had an extra gear when it mattered. Impressive how they put the hammer down in the final 200m. Do you know who the favourites are in the event?

@canefan Hard to tell. Could easily be one of Norway, NZ, USA, AUS. Possibly Romania too given they're reigning champs.

edit - may have overestimated Oz given the French just beat them and they looked like they'd done as much as they could at the end.

And then the Norwegians prove me wrong by rowing like they threw an oar. Romanians looked very impressive.

Australia leading Spain in the basketball. They led by as much as 10 earlier, but it's tight now, Oz up 4 with 4 minutes to play in Q3

5th ranked Australia have 5 minutes to go to beat 2nd ranked Spain. Aussie playing typical physical ball, excellent defence and dominating the O glass. Golden opportunity up 7

Just watching the highlights of the Oly whites vs Guinea. Paulsen was a wall. I didn't realise that was only our second ever win in an Olympic games football match
