@barbarian isnt this year the first year they have allowed multiple boats in Kayak?

Is a ridiculous rule really, we had Waddell and Drysdale competing for the NZ boat a couple of Olympics back when they'd likely be competing with one another for the gold!

How many Yanks or Jamaicans make a 100m sprint final usually?

A good race by the women's K4 500m to finish 2nd to the favourites Hungary in the heat and advance to the SF on Sat, and rest. NZ led most of the way.

@bovidae yeah they either were gassed or looked to ease up as thier speed dropped pretty quick when the Hungarians went by.

@taniwharugby that sounds to me like they are pacing themselves (I live in hope).

Best 3 rounds I’ve seen in some time

What happened to the Cubans in boxing? Have all their best defected?

I suspect many turned pro and / or went to the states for better coaching (I'm assuming they don't have the funding for advanced coaches or facilities compared to their huge neighbour but that is just an assumption).

@barbarian thanks for the list, it forced me to ponder again on what "olympic" sport means.. I don't think tennis should be there (and I'm a tennis player) as the Opens reign supreme, but also, volleyball. Great spectactor sport but does it really test the human body? And skateboarding?
I've done fencing though, and still enjoy watching it.

Getting on the podium will be a great effort, but they do look to have the speed. Two more big races needed.

@kiwiwomble Does that mean Lydia with her 5 under for today which was the day's best score for all those tied for third on ten under become the winner of the bronze medal? Maybe there might be another obscure way of deciding ties like number of no balls hit or number of balls that crossed the boundary line!!!

@higgins i honestly have no idea, hoped someone else could explain, maybe they all share it? i would normally say there would be a pay off but obviously if bad weather stops them playing the final round then thats not happening

Lydia hasn't played too many bad holes.

That double-bogey on the first day - and bogeying the last two holes yesterday have been pretty expensive. Without some of those, she could have been third on her own, or in a tie for silver - or a shot behind Korda... I guess all the others have various tales of woe.

I doubt they'll do anything too half-arsed (like the cricket) to determine bronze if tomorrow is a washout.

They'll either organize a 4-way play-off or just dish out four bronze medals.

I'm always amazed NZ and Australia do well in cycling, wouldn't have thought we'd have the mass of riders, culture, or specialist facilities to compete with the Europeans..

you mean Australia? Cycling in most places outside maybe of Canberra is a masochistic deathwish.
