Just checking the basketball draw. How the furk did Slovenia get so damn good?

    Luka Doncic. That is all.

He’s having an amazing Olympic campaign. Not just his scoring but he is definitely lifting his team.

A very good game on now in the semi final between Slovenia and France. Final quarter and France up by 4 points.

Geez, not many nationalities in this 2nd heat.
3 athletes from the USA, 2 Belgian, 2 Dutch
1 from Austria and 1 from Benin

So with that last run of the heptathlon, the Netherlands won two medals (silver and bronze), just stealing one from Belgium who win gold (and the other finishing 4th). Is living below sea level an advantage for heptathlon?

I think it’s finished right with the two best teams - USA v France for gold, and the next best two Slovenia and Oz for bronze.

I havent seen any official announcements so presume ladies golf will still be contested over the full 4 rounds. They are however going off split tees today so perhaps trying to get through before some weather comes in later in the day. Surely any decision needs to be made before the first group tees off today.

Anyway, Lydia off at 11.42am NZtime along with Jessica Korda

Oh and Gaby 10.59am NZ time and paired with Brook Henderson.

Bermuda unfortunately. At 64k total pop we can't catch them. Still an amazing effort and probably more to come. A top 10 would be incredible.

San Marino most medals per capita, 1 per 11000!

They should do it backwards as well.

Haven't checked this but been told that if you exclude the medal extravaganza that is the swimming us and Aussie are level on medal count.

I always find it confusing that as a country where almost everyone grows up near the sea and swimming every summer and with a reasonably strong surf lifesaving tradition we don't do better in the pool.

We are smarter and concentrate on Olympic sports that allow you to sit down while winning.

The two sets of predictions in this article have worked out pretty well.

A few big surprises and not many fails.

Big result for Aus last night with Ash Moloney taking bronze in the decathlon. We've never won a medal in that event before, so it's an incredible achievement.

It's probably a top five moment of these games for me. Winning gold is nice but it's left field stuff, unexpected stuff like this that is what the games are all about.

Athletics medals should count double or triple, given the width and depth of the talent pool. You're genuinely competing against every nation. It's nice to win in swimming or rowing or kayaking or equestrian or cycling, but those are a rich nations' game.
