I feel like the Olympics peaked in London 2012
Probably helps that you were in or around London in 2012, right? I've been reminded recently with Euros of how cool it was to be in London when sports were going right. It's a bloody fun country to be in when that happens.
Unless it's rugby.

Interesting article. We already know that the IOC needs the Tokyo Olympics to proceed as this is their cash cow. But they aren't taking any of the risk or accepting responsibility if something goes wrong.

Yeah definitely I am 100% biased, but feels like they pulled off a "managable" sized games without the insane level of bloat, and the legacy stuff has all gone well, no white elephants

Nigeria has 7 current NBA players.

@frye apologies for the double negative, this isn't "not" true. But it's the equivalent of a bunch of super rugby bench warmers beating the all blacks.
Of the 7, I've heard of exactly 0 of them

This article is charging around my LinkedIn.
I’m not much of a Huffpost fan, but it probably sums up the feelings of - well - almost everyone I know here in Japan.
Key quote:
The Tokyo Games will further expose the essential truth of the Olympic movement, which is that it is not about sports at all. The games are a grift meant to further enrich an already wealthy few. Everyone else ― the poor people whose homes are in the wrong place, the Indigenous forests and the people who inhabit them, the Japanese nurse who has to treat an Olympic executive or athlete at the expense of a COVID-19 patient, the hotel worker who gets infected because thousands of people who should not be in Japan nevertheless are ― is entirely expendable.

Going to need fucking long stirrups to get on that high horse.
Let's just all stay in our homes instead.
Have the Japanese people marched against how shit their government has been in administering the vaccine?

Did you see the video of the lady who shot the water gun at the torch bearer?
The comment made by one of my ex-students on Facebook wasn't one of disgust, rather it was 'that was a good shot'.
Kyodo reports that 86% of people in a poll are against the Olympics.
To respond to your question about the vaccine - that's the reason, the government is too worried about the fucking games rather than putting jabs in people's arms. That's the point of the argument against the Olympics.

They're Japanese, not French.

Precious Achiuwa - rookie that plays for the Heat. Got about 12-13 minutes a game which wasn’t too bad for a rookie on the Heat roster.
Kezie Okpala - another Heat player. Played hardly anything as a rookie last season, but got a bit of time this year.
Miye Oni - was on the main Jazz roster as a second year player.
Josh Okogie - has been a regular part of the rotation for the Timberwolves over the past 3 seasons. Mainly as the backup 2 guard, but has started a fair few games as well.
Jordan Nwora - plays for the Bucks. Got minutes in the regular season but has really only played garbage time in the playoffs.
Chimezie Metu - actually had a few decent games for the Sacramento Kings this season. Can hit the 3.
Jahlil Okafor - well known player especially when he started out in Philly. Currently playing for the Pistons.
Gabe Vincent - another player on the Heat roster.
They’ve also got Ekpe Udoh who is no longer in the NBA but bounced around the league for a number of years.

The university I work at here in Japan was chosen as one of the first workplaces in the country to give vaccines to students and staff with great fanfare from the govt. in the media starting on June 21st. After much fluffing about, we received an e-mail today saying the whole program is canceled before one vaccine is given and a message that said, "Please get a vaccine from your local government!" (Yeah, right, we are talking about next year at the earliest) I honestly cannot believe the incompetence on display. It is Benny Hill on steroids.
Fuck the Olympics!
All foreigners including permanent residents are banned from entering Japan even if they are married to a Japanese, have kids, a job etc. It is a fucking tragedy for a lot of people. I have students who can't get into the country and are studying online just waiting for permission to enter.
VIPs and athletes are streaming into Japan as we speak. Bach the fluffybunny came into the country last week waving to people from his car like he was the fucking Queen.
Fuck the Olympics and all it stands for! -

Genuine question.IMO Japan should have told the IOC that this cycle would not be held there then started planning to use venues when things cleared up as some sort of post Olympic celebration games.
IOC should have also had the balls to change the games cycle maybe ? Push back future dates. Shit for athletes that get one shot in their life but that’s just reality. -

Fuck the Olympics and all it stands for!Well you’ll be happy to know that the exalted premier of Qld Pallachook will be there. According to her it would be a “disaster” if she wasn’t. Must be words of comfort for those with family who are barred from entering. I’m hoping Brisbane doesn’t win the games. Not because of Pallachook but it would be hilarious if Brisbane didn’t win despite her essential presence.
