Isn't there a degree of subjectivity in the FIFA rankings as opposed to WR where the points system is pretty rigid?

On the "how big is this shock" o-meter, Iceland beating the recent semi-finalists in the World Cup home and away was way bigger than them beating the perpetual tournament also-rans.

Quite possibly. The problem with the soccer rankings is that with so many countries and soccer being what is with draws and 1-0 results, it's very difficult to classify 200+ countries into an accurate rankings list.
 
There is no way England is in the top 10 countries IMO, with once again a woeful display at a major tournament.
 
The Rugby rankings are excellent, only losing the plot at World Cup time where the silly decision to award double points simply distorts the rankings.

Danny Baker is a fairly famous radio/TV person in the UK who is a Millwall fan. He really did lay into them although I suspect some red wine had been taken .....

The weird thing about recent England tournament failures, is we seem to perform more badly as the tournament progresses. 
So either it's because more time spent with the coach makes the players actually worse, or the little princes get too "bored" away from home for any length of time, and their little minds start to wander. Or maybe Roy confiscated their PS4s. 
It needs looking into because for years we haven't "toured" well.

Strange because for Bobby Robson's 2 "successful" World Cup campaigns (86 & 90) the team started terribly and Robson stumbled across his best team by accident (Wilkins being red carded in 86 and Gazza emerging in 90) and got better as the tournament went on.
 
I think maybe the Russia game flattered England - Russia really were awful as subsequent performances proved and gave England so much space, they couldn't help but look at. Each opponent was more canny than the last until Iceland reduced England to a confused rabble.
 
Roy Hodgson's media conference performance did him no favours either. Usual self-serving bollocks from every departing England manager.

I thought Woy would do better. In fact I figured he wud repeat what Robson achieved. 
At club level he always knew what he wanted was organisationally strong and produced teams who battled and were defensive walls 
Given Liverpool and now this he must struggle with "superstars". 
At least he did blood some promising players [/feathers clutched]
