Enjoyed the game, even if Canes did lose. Thought Crusaders certainly deserved win, Canes need to get some players back. Young Harkin and wing (can't remember name off hand 7s player) tried hard but were pretty lost on defence. Harkin will be ok with experience , but looked out of his depth to me. Still in general thought it was ok.

@Canes4life, I am sorry to write this, but Roigard (early days for an All Black though) was poor and I was far from impressed by Godfrey. Both made several unforced errors. After watching this game, I have the impression that Harkin could be a better 10 than Godfrey. It would be interesting to see them swap their jerseys for the next game.

Wishful thinking. How did former AB David Havili play?

A hell of a lot better than the hurricanes midfield.

I did like Godfrey's ability to take on the line. Very much like a young Donald. Harkin definitely looked like a ten playing fifteen.

He reminds me of more of a young Beaudy, even kind of looks like him. That is before Beaudy started kicking the ball away every time he got the chance.

I hope the Canes persist with Roigard and Godfrey, last thing we need is chopping and changing like the Crusaders did last year.

Godfrey will go better with Higgins and Proctor outside him as well. Umaga-Jensen and Sullivan were all over the place.

Good first up win for the Crusaders. They closed out the back end of the game well, big improvement from last year.
Apart from Jordan, and Reece who played very well, Kemera went well very composed and looked like he has found his feet in SR.Bower was strong off the bench along with O'Connor.
Moanana had a really strong game up front with Williams and Lilo-Willie.
Something to build on going forward.

Yeah, I thought he had a good game. Taha kicked well and put his outsides into space. One nice pass would have led to a try but for the Havili knock-on. Not passing to Fihaki was the only bad mistake.

Kemara limited his mistakes too which was a big improvement

He looked much better outside Preston than outside Hotham

Yep that non pass blew a try, he did use great footwork and speed to get to the outside but then didn't pass..
    Hopefully he can kick on.

Hotham was only on the field for 8 mins, and for most of that time they were defending.

On the subject of the coverage., how shit was that segment just after half when Nisbo and Mashall interviewing Penney while the Hurricanes attacked?

Here's a thought: "Hang on Rob, we'll get back to you ... "

The highlight was Marshall with “you often do not see that”

I liked Reece's kick for the Preston try "off the outside of the left foot". When it went right. Yeah good one Justin.

What a difference having decent 10s makes. Crusaders looking much better than last seasons damp squib. Good game that, a very decent start to Super Rugby viewing.

NB: @ Justin Marshall - it’s not a forward pass if the ball goes back out of the hands. Not if the hands goes backwards but the ball goes forwards. #rugby101

Not looking good for Hurricanes. Might miss playoffs.

A disappointing second half performance, but it's only the first round. A long way to go.

    Player points etc
6 - Kyle Preston (CRU), Fatafehi Fineanganofo (HUR)

4 - Sevu Reece (CRU), Du’Plessis Kirifi (HUR)

    2 - Jacob Devery (HUR)

1 - David Havili (CRU), Will Jordan (CRU)

Shows what I know I didn't think Fatafehi Fineanganofo was all that good, mainly in defence, but both Havili and Penney must of found him the biggest worry in attacck

I'm happy to persist with Fehi, he will only get better on defence and was outstanding on attack. The issue was more with Bailyn Sullivan reading the defence at 13, he was all over the place and this meant Fehi who was on debut was having to compensate, which in turn left space on the outside for the likes of Reece to flourish.

Not saying Fehi is perfect but getting Billy Proctor back is vital. If he was there on Friday, the Crusaders simply wouldn't have had the same space to attack down that left edge because of his superior ability to read the game. Something that Sullivan hasn't improved on for about four years now.

Can understand your points, and certainly not arguing with Fehi getting 6 points, as I said I like the selection process and if Havili and Penney who are really involved in game both gave him 3 points, no way in world I would argue from my take watching on tv.
I have to say you would be happy with Godfey's game too. I thought he needed another year, and it's only one game, but he looked ok I thought.
