Statistically he is doing better on defense than Savea is (as well as Ngatai and Moala). Is it a case of missing the player completely?

He misses a lot of tackles, it's an observation (I don't know how the stats treat clear misses)

Savea, Ngatai and Mo'ala are hardly known for their defense anyway.

I've been his biggest critic about this in the last few years.... has been very reluctant to put his body on the line while playing for the crusaders in both attack and defense.

Fair enough, perhaps not Lowe then :)

I am a fan of statistics either way, but recently I've had to rely solely on them as I've had little chance to actually watch most the games (particularly the ones Lowe has been a part of this season). Either way, I think we have people that can come in and do a reasonable job while Savea (hopefully) gets his act together before the Rugby Championship.

First he starts the season fat and lazy, secondly once he got fit he has done pretty much f all and now this. He is going the right way about throwing his jersey away.

Personally I wouldn't pick him just to give him a wake up call. That may sound harsh but I think it's the right thing to do to get him switched on again.

On one hand I agree with you but I am not sure having one rule for some players and another rule for others is a good look. The AB selectors have been tolerant with ABs in the past who have had poor Super campaigns.

I wouldn't mind Lowe getting a shot (way better than Osborne and I think they might be able to help sand down some of his rough edges) but there's no comparing wingers tackling stats to midfielders. Silly.

Anyway, I fuckin knew Jane was going to be one of the dipshits. Didn't think of him at first and would've expected more from a senior player, but then I remembered 2011 when even then, he wasn't exactly a starry eyed youngster. Not surprised by the Savea's or Eves but I am surprised to see Vito there. Dumb.

Respect to Boyd for putting his foot down though. Even if the Reds are shit, it makes an all but certain win into a bit of a question mark.

Moala's defense has come a heck of a long way in the last couple of years - his passing for me is a bigger problem - which wouldnt be as much of an issue on the wing.

And an established member of the national side in an environment where every resource is aimed at ensuring the national team remains at the pinnacle. I would be astounded if his spot was in jeopardy for June that he didn't already know about it.

Pick Julian and pick Matt Todd. Then tell Julian, "we would have picked Ardie except we think having one Savea in the team is enough to deal with at present - so stop testing our no dick heads policy".

Tell Ardie the the same. 🙂

I'm not expecting perfection from the big fella every week because that is unrealistic. All I ask is for him to put in 100% effort . At the moment it looks like he barely gives a toss about the Canes jersey and it is reflecting on the team. The Canes always play better when Julian plows into the opposition at full steam because everyone knows full well that when he does, it must be a big game. I just wish it didn't take the big games for him to switch on but I guess that is what fuels his fire.

Dont forget Julian Savea was dropped from All Black selection last year because he didn't turn up conditioned. Id say if he does that again old Shag and the rest of the coaching staff will be a little pissed and I wouldn't blame them.

Isn't this pathetic. 18 minutes late and all the articles about it. Boyd must be a complete fool to make such a big issue of it. Just have a quiet word and move on. Not treat them like naughty children. No wonder the team was flat against the Sharks. The players must have lost their respect for him and the team management

http://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/79906281/Hurricanes-stand-down-errant-All-Blacks-for-Super-Rugby-match-v-Reds

The Hurricanes are calling their decision to stand five players down from selection as a "one-out-of-10 offence with a 10-out-of-10 punishment."

Star players Julian and Ardie Savea, Cory Jane and Victor Vito, along with reserve prop Chris Eves, will watch Saturday's Super Rugby clash with the Reds from the Westpac Stadium stands after breaking a team-imposed curfew last week.

The five players are understood to have missed a prescribed curfew by 18 minutes, in Durban last Tuesday. Neither Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd nor captain Dane Coles would say what the curfew was, although Boyd noted that the quintet were back at the team hotel before midnight.

Give me strength. :Bang_Head:

You just can't do and hope to have a motivated team.

Boyd said the players had made a poor decision and the matter had been dealt with internally.

"Though some people may not see staying out late as being particularly serious, the team set their standards very high this year and everyone bought into that at the start of the season," Boyd said in a statement.

"We have a great bunch of guys in the squad and this was an isolated incident, but there are certain lines in the sand and when those lines are crossed there are consequences.

But thankfully Proctor is back. The midfield was poor last WE. Aso needs to be left at 2nd 5 to find his feet here rather than shifting him week by week. Surely they can find someone better than Gibbins though

Hurricanes: James Marshall, Jason Woodward, Matt Proctor, Vince Aso, Wes Goosen, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Blade Thomson, Callum Gibbins, Brad Shields, Michael Fatialofa, Vaea Fifita, Jeff Toomaga-Allen, Dane Coles, Reggie Goodes. Reserves: Motu Matu'u, Lonu Uhila, Ben May, Mark Abbott, Tony Lamborn, Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi, Ngani Laumape, Willis Halaholo.
