TJ Perenara - is this the end?

That sideline try was unbelievable

That sideline try was unbelievable
His pass when he was falling was one of the best he’s delivered and the final pass to him was sublime
He’s been a pain in the arse to play against and if he’d been born elsewhere would have been lauded as one of that country’s best

Yeah very unlucky that he played at the same time as Aaron Smith really.

Sorry to be all Nelly negative, but I don't think he ever really reached his potential. When he first cam eon the scene, I remember a few of us (not on here) were of the opinion that Smith was keeping the jersey warm for him.
Yet, whilst Smith just got more and more solid, Perenara seemed to go the other way. Phenomenal rugby player with some moments of unbelievable brilliance which Smith could never do, but too many "other moments" for me. Almost a bit Byron ish, in that he couldn't calm himself down enough for the big moments when all that was needed was him to do his job to perfection to let other talents in the team expose opportunities. Which is odd as I think he's a natural leader, with the mana required to take on the big jobs.
Summary is that his ceiling was probably higher than Smith, but his average was a distant second.

My tuppence...
When we had the three unbelievably incredible options of Smith, Kerr-Barlow and Perenara we all though Perenara was the best bits of the other two.
Had a great pass and was hugely physical, could run, could tackle.
Unfortunately that didn't kinda work out.
He kinda got over excitable, and really didn't become his best self.
Am still super pleased with his efforts, but in the end didn't live up to his potential, when we thought he maybe would be the best of the three.
Thanks TJ. Go well in your next phase.

If Razor is to make his mark on this team, he will need to cull several of the old guard for the upcoming EOYT, TJ and Cane being the 1st 2, plus a few others that must surely be looking at the exit, but Razor needs to regain his ruthlessness and show he's the head coach.
-
Yep and Sititi starting at 8. Proctor trial at center, Lakai trial at 7 and fast wingers...
The songs getting a bit boring. -
We'd have been pretty fucked this year if he had gone completely for the moolah and deserves thanks for that. Great team man and leader of the haka but I'd really like to see another 9 on the EOYT. I don't think he can add value to the younger players like Cane could.
If this is his last game, he deserves a bloody good send-off.

Why not? His work ethic, dedication and guts are on a par at least.

Yeah, agreed, but we're looking pretty good at 9 with Ratima and the likely return of The World's Greatest Halfback Ever for the EOYT. The 7 jersey is looking much thinner

EOYTs should not be farewell tours. Unless you are a HC that wants to get yourself or your assistants fired

Yeah seconded. I always find it weird when guys who, you know, aren’t actually All Blacks or part of the All Black set up make statements like this. How the hell would any of us really know ?
It’s like me making claims about TJ cos I happen to see him at Whitby New World quite a bit

He's staying in France.

Waving his arms in an exasperated fashion at the self serve machines last I saw

In the same vein they shouldn't also be development tours. If the coach thinks players are the best for the job and they're leaving at the end of the year then that's really no different than selecting them for the RC or July tests.

TJP was a very good SR player but there was a reason TKB was preferred as Smith's backup at the 2015 RWC.
Good summary.
Happy for Perenara that his last home test is a sold out home town ground.
