With Surf Features having a bazillion assistant coaches for no apparent reason and even less discernible value, I resorted to Google to double check that Scott Hansen is allegedly the Defence Coach of the All Blacks.

Pretty much every time the Australians were hot on attack in our 22, it just seemed we were going to eventually fold and wave them through.

Mind you having said that, it appears we dont have the cattle to choose from either. Is this the reason they are hanging onto some; looking at you Ardie, TJ, ALB well past their best. So farking frustrating!
I've been a critic but TJP played bloody well this game - best of bench!

Random thoughts.
All is not well in Razorland. First and foremost, it seems the ABs are not respecting test rugby.- Not taking points when they are on offer. The default position is now to go for the corner regardless of the situation. In the McCaw days, points first and the corner would be taken when the situation demanded it.
- Turning off and letting in soft tries usually up the middle. It seems the ABs have a soft belly.
- Trying fancy slip passes, stupid brainfart passes.
- Not protecting the ball at all costs and losing possession at crucial times.
- Poor exits that put the pressure right back on immediately. Every time there is a 50/50 defensive up and under from the ABs own 22 or they try multiple phases in front of their sticks, I just shake my head in astonishment.
It is a f#%king test match, not super rugby! FFS!
Second, I think it is obvious that Savea is a really good player but poor No.8. He needs to be a bench option or position change. Darry and Aumua are stinking up the impact role. Be bold in selections Razor!
Third, the rugby gods are angry at the ABs. TMOs are inventing ghost knock ons, tries are "held up", Aussie props are not taking the weight- not contesting, basically lady luck has deserted the ABs. They need to sacrifice something at the altar of the rugby gods.

Some mention of players not being in their optimal positions and that is 100% correct. We have a fullback playing flyhalf, a winger playing centre, another winger playing fullback and a flanker playing no. 8.

Agree, but that is a minor issue. There are plenty of good wingers about the place. Narawa or Tavatavanawai I think would be worth a crack.

He's the stocky power house winger isn't he? If I am thnking of the right guy I don't think he is quick enough. He probably won't be able to break takles like he does at NPC and Super level, and given his lack of speed it'll be Telea and Reece all over again.

Aussies (and kiwis) are pretty quiet generally, and the stadium layout at Homebush is also pretty shit. Those high but low-angle make for big distances for the guys in the nose-bleeds
Other than for tries, the 3 notable times that the crowd made some noise was:
- Slipper coming on for his 140th cap;
- A random “All Blacks” chant in the last 20 that drowned out the aussies completely; and
- when the ground tv guy found and replayed the DMac forward pop pass and put it on loop on the big screen
In between play the dj did what all ground dj’s do and drowned out all other sound , but when the ball was in play, for the most part it was really quiet. Quiet enough for me to comment to my daughter about it

I think particularly for some of those bigger tests, Tavatavanawai's skillset come be quite helpful. Solid under the high ball, strong in the tackle, arguably the best player over the ball in the whole country. Probably not as elusive as others, but has a low error rate which I quite like.
The issue with Reece and Tele'a is not that they can't beat defenders, it is that they make too many mistakes/struggle on defence.

Funnily enough a decision to take the three at 28-14 turned out to be quite handy, so not sure this is entirely true.

Only just watched it after working all night so tired and grumpy. Haven’t read all of the thread. So was the final score actually confirmed or has the TMO called it back and changed it today? That was a bullshit call before halftime of game changing proportions.
All of my negativity aside wrt to rugby laws / tmo interference / officiating in general, the ABs have a major problem with on field leadership. They also need something else happening with “ mental skills” off field. Missing Enoka maybe but it is all wrong up top with that team.

Most other All Black coaches would have said something like "played poorly, still won, lots to work on." Robertson tried to spin it as some sort of great and historic victory. Does he think the NZ Rugby public are fools?
I'm not sure if it is lack of honesty, that may just be his personality - the way he looks at things, always positive. But it is not realistic enough for test match rugby IMO
This is just a media tactic. Do you seriously think that a guy who won seven Super Rugby titles in a row can't see what everyone else can. Positive in front facing, honest behind closed doors.
I think there is a bit of acceptance that getting the ABs back to number one is going to be harder than they thought. There is no doubt a few limitations in the playing departments, but I think the big positive is we have started to work out some of them.
Taylor and the props are going well, now just need to nail our backup hooker. Aumua has been disappointing, so I'd like to see them give Bell a go.
Locks are going great, we have found answers in Vaa'i and Darry
Sititi has somewhat answered the blindside flanker problem, the loose trio is looking the best it has all year. Long term I think he will shift to 8, and Lakai and possibly Haig will join the fray, but it is at least looking balanced now.
Ratima going great, but the halves is our main issue. TJP is leaving, but they don't seem to have much faith in Hotham. All the eggs are in the Roigard getting back up to speed quickly basket. McKenzie just isn't quite there. Plummer should get a crack next week.
I think once we sort out a good first five, we'll quickly look really good again. With a dominant first five we control that game and win it easily.

Not sure the loose trio is looking that good. Cane doesn’t look good when the game opens up and made a bad error defending mall when he left the gate open. Savea had the ball stripped 3 (? ) times on attack and just wants to turn the ball over rather than make offensive tackles. I think we have the players but not the mix. Still like to have a bigger no 6 ( maybe one of the locks ) with Sititi at number 8. Open sides could be Savea ( tackling an issue ) DP, Blackadder, Lakai.

He wasn’t on the field for the final quarter which is exactly the point! We don’t score in the last 20 and we let sides get over us. That is 1/4 of the game after half time.
