Because TJ has always had zero composure, and BB was the worst offender at the back end of the last game under pressure.

I also can't see why anyone in their right mind would drop Rieko after the game he had.

At the risk of sounding like a degenerate Hater, can I ask what Rieko did to apparently be un-droppable?

That was his best game this year but I think even then he was still our least effective back ball in hand.

His defensive work was generally very, very good, positioned himself well with JB and he was effective at the breakdown. I don't think he's kicked on as much as we hoped, but that was a really solid effort and the JB/RI midfield worked pretty well.

    And was ineffective on wing.

BB made some howlers against England, followed by some highlights reel plays. The howlers got ignored (putting ball out on the full, for instance). We got lucky then.

I don't think anyone expected this season to be what it is - a repeat of Foster's team, playing similar styles but with a few veterans not there. It's weird.

    switch to a 6-2

    6 Blackadder
    7 Papalii
    8 Savea

    20 Jacobson
    21 Cane

    Delicious

Liam Messam and Steven Luatua really were around in the wrong era weren't they?

They'd play 100+ tests each if they were around today.

Victor Vito is the one that comes to mind for me , that guy could have been anything but played in the wrong era sitting behind kaino and read .

@nzzp dunno, with those vets gone and a new coaching team, I think I always expected there to be some struggles.

Struggles maybe, but I didn't think we'd be seeing Cane starting at 7 and a bunch of 6.5 squaddies selected. And so far not much of a change in gameplan ... in fact do we konw what our gameplan is?

What I didn't expect was the poor mental performance late in games

Yep. Old hands letting the side down, and the bench having impact of cotton wool was not in my 2024 expectations.

Barrett has dined out on coming on as a sub and rinsing Maro Itoje on the outside to set up a try for the whole season. He has had plenty of gaffes since.

For all the talk of good comms and good positioning etc we conceded 38 against Argentina and 31 against the Boks. If Ruben Love is there are we gonna concede 50?

I don’t know how it can be any worse if we give Love or Ratima or Proctor or Sititi a go. The championship is essentially lost now.

DMAC and Beaudy put us under so much pressure with miracle chip and chases and cross field balls.

Remember the final passage against Ireland in 2013 where Crotty scored in the corner. We went 60 meters ball in hand. Nobody countenanced kicking it away.

Beaudy kicked it away twice in the last two minutes this weekend. He is completely gun shy.

Take contact set up another ruck and go again. We may even win a penalty .

Booting it away twice is ridiculous.

The focus for change should be on the loose forwards, but the squad selection has left us nowhere to go there.

Ardie's form warrants being benched, but we don't have anyone to replace him as we left Sotutu out despite him being in career best form so we only have complete rookie Sititi to fall back on.

Cane and Paps are as good as we have at 7, so either of them is fine.

Blackadder is really struggling with the physicality needed at 6. He hasn't played badly, and he has a high work rate, but he does not make dominant tackles and has zero impact with ball in hand. The coaches made their bed with rookie Finau but surprise surprise, he's finding the step up to test level a bit tough. Again we've left ourselves nowhere to go as we let Akira in career best form leave NZ rugby altogether.

That's where the ABs biggest weakness by miles is right now, and it was SAs loosies that got them over the line in the end. Our tight 5 and backline are outstanding - Vaa'i and Darry have been revelations in the locking department - but we're being let down big time by our loose forwards.

Very disappointing seeing him come off the bench and not only did he not make one of the big hits hes supposedly known for he got bumped off completely !

Not exactly the second coming of Kaino/Collins so far.

Who's responsible for loose forward selection again?

only mildly trolling - but the loosies selection got grief at the time for being 'samey' and you can see it play out poorly now. That was a really bad loss for us - where do you go now with the squad you've got?

I have a theory that Robertson may have a blind spot to players that were like him as a player. It would explain the predominance of 6.5 that we selected. Who knows though.

It'd be the 3rd coming of Kaino technically, because Kaino already had his own 2nd coming.

Or you could say 4th cos JC and JK were different people.

So based on that logic Finau will be a force in about 2027.

Finau did fuck all in the Super season outside of a couple of highlight reel hits.
He was picked on his physical attributes and potential.
Played poorly in his starts, dropped from the starting 23 altogether, and then came back on as a sub and played poorly.
Terrible season so far and probably the single most disappointing player in the ABs this season.

The non-selection of Akira and Sotutu borders on insanity

Yeah he's the biggest disappointment for the ABs so far IMO. He's offered absolutely no impact whatsoever.
