It felt like they spent probably 25 minutes in our 22 while we had maybe 5 minutes in theirs.
Most of the kicks we missed at goal, resulted in us being stuck in our 22 for the next 15 minutes.
It's just a very odd game to review. We clearly showed we could get around the rush defense almost at will. We did it regularly, pretty much whenever we went wide we found space.
Yet somehow, by the end of the game we just didn't capitalize on those opportunities while giving them enough to finally take the game from us.
(ignoring the 9 points we left on the field from missed kicks).
I think we easily have the talent (Vaaii and Sititi were outplaying the entire Bok pack).
It also looks like our attack shape is really coming along now where we are back to making easy ground ball in hand and more importantly..we're doing it with very simple plays that are relatively low risk and match our players skill set.
But it seems like we just made the worst mistake at the most crucial moment each time we could have. Like mentally and composure wise we have just COLLAPSED 2 weeks in a row.
This is a very different situation to the Foster era where I felt our attack shape was genuinely non existent and horrible. One of the worst in top international rugby. Pretty much wasted 4 years of each backline players career.
So it's a very different situation. Feels much more fixable currently...but also seems like the leadership group have to take full responsibility here. It should be on them to help guide the team to be PEAKING at the end of the game at crunch time, not the complete opposite which is what has occurred the last fortnight.
Did the ABs look like crossing the try line despite the quality and quantity of possession?
Yes, regularly when we got into your half. Even in the first 10 minutes the only reason we didn't score was Ratima being tackled off the ball when it would have been a simple draw and pass.
At least from my perspective.
Fair enough, but that's the only time I remember

What was the point of our box kicks from Ratima, when our wingers were merely going for a slow jog after them? Clarke was definitely missed today. I hope we never see Reece and Talea in black again.
I think that was maybe the worst collective AB back 3 performance I have ever seen. All useless under the high ball, barely effective in attack, constantly doing something dumb. Just horrible.

Tough loss. Thought your youngsters up front fronted up big time. Vaa’i, Sititi and Williams all excellent. Taylor had the best game I’ve seen from him. Ardie was a menace too - pity about the maul drop.
The losing of that game was your outside back selections. Both wings had mares under the highball and should’ve been victimized in defence if our centres and WLR were any bloody use.
Still, you were within a gnat’s ball hair of winning that game. Which is annoyingly impressive given where you are in your team’s development cycle and the sometimes frustratingly clumsy pressure the boks’ applied.
For us though, it’s sweet to finally steal a few of these matches from the ABs at the death. Very sweet.

Don't want to be a Jeremiah, but did we ever look like scoring a try? Did we get within 1m of the Boks try-line?

@MiketheSnow not that fair - ball carrier wasn’t looking to pass to him and Cortez was mainly interested in running a blocking line on Wiese

Reece and Telea were garbage in Argie test 1
It's not a surprise they sucked again today.
Telea has gone backwards faster than Caleb Clarke has improved. Wonder if we'll see Reiko on the wing and Proctor at 13 if Clarke is till injured.

The ball carrier was close though
As close as any AB today

We should see it if Clarke is fit. Need 2 wingers.

Some guys have done really well Williams Taylor Lomax Vaai Cane Sititi Ratima
But collectively, the team lost it's head in the last 20minutes - again.
That's why I'm so frustrated.
-
I have to say again - and until today I defended him - Ioane looked much more dangerous on the wing.
-
And yes DMac has not kicked on, literally.
-
Does anyone else think Scott Barrett is not back to peak form?

Again some of the subs were lesser players.
Malcolm Marx made a serious difference too -
@nostrildamus Time for change need a passer

Make a difference.
We need players who make an impact.
We have bench players who come on and add fuck all. The likes of Ofa and Jacobson come to mind.
Either that or they are actually worse than that (think Perenara, Beauden, Finau last week etc)
