Watching now because I got home a bit munted after the John I Dent final.
Ethan "both sides of the ball" Blackadder couldn't pass to an umarked winger five metres out.
DMac decides to hand back possession from inside our 22 with a useless chip kick to nobody.
Blind ref penalises Ardie one metre from our line for "no clear release" when there's a clear as fuck release which should've been a penalty for holding on.
Blind Irish TMO can't see Mbonambe clearly lose possession over the line.
Cross kick to Clarke and a turnover penalty because South Africans are allowed to place their hands on the ground first.
Cane puts a hard shoulder on South African Black Jesus who coughs up the ball in contact.
Beautiful run by Rieko down the blindside from a scrum, draw and pass to put Jordan into space. Ethan too slow to get there to clean out.
Outstanding attack from turnover ball. DMac and then Lomax dummy to beat rushing defenders and put Clarke in.
Blind clown awards South Africa a scrum penalty despite the tighthead clearly on his knees.
Turnover because "both sides of the ball" can't get there in time to clean out the defender. Has there been a slower loose forward?
And that's the first half. Score should be 3 - 12
Agree with a lot of what you say - but your Blackadder hatred does run deep.....
Ethan was one of my top 3 players today (as have a # of other Ferners going by the MOTM thread)..... cos as you say -- the work on both sides of the ball...
In answer to your slower loose fwds - not trolling... but Frizzel and Ioane were not speed merchants either.... and sure as shit didn't put the consistent work in that Blackadder is showing so far...

So much to like today.
Our game plan was on point, we played with strength and control up front, we created great chances to score, and we did so with well taken tries. We did make a series of small errors that increasingly cost us in terms of pressure and in points. When the bomb squad came on we struggled to stop their rolling maul, and they ground us down and our bench failed to have the desired impact, as we could have predicted in the Argie tests. There were some pretty questionable decisions by the ref in the last 10, but after everything we still should have won the game. What isn't in doubt is that the Springboks were gifted a try that clearly wasn't in the first half
-
@Mattasaurus EB had a good game. A lot of our leaders stood up today. We made too many errors in the wrong part of the park, and Razor has to look closely at the bench to combat what is a strong part of the Books team

I thought in the last quarter , the boks reverted to their more traditional game , and we probably struggled with that a bit . Well our subs were not as capable as theirs anyway .
Their earlier desire to do a bit more with the ball probably suited us .
But we did a lot right to get into a winnable position, hard to tell from the tv , but it looked like dmac was playing extra deep like a second receiver and when we simply put it through the hands we found space , just like that we were on the outside of the rush D .
Maybe that was the rangi dispute ? Something looked different in the setup .

I'm not expert enough to technically asses styles. But we seemed to create better chances and scored better tries through our structures as opposed to long range counter attacking scores
-
On a side note, it was great not to have the tackle area picked apart by an overreaching TMO. I thought the ref generally had a good game. While we probably got a raw deal on a few examples in the final minutes, some of that was due to the Boks raising their game
-
I never do this, but that was a fucking disgraceful display of refereeing. That was black and white tour to south africa shit. Get fucked no one saw that first "try". The double standards at the ruck were blatant and disgraceful. I don't know who these cheating fluffybunnies were but they should never get the gig again.
An absolute robbery.
-
Perfect start to the second half as Jordie catches a gift of an intercept and races away like the lanky giraffe he is.
Ability to exit our own half again an issue as DMac appears to be the best option to catch a kick off and we immediately turn it over. WTF
Less than four minutes into the second half and the Boks need to be replaced en masse.
"both sides of the ball" gives away a penalty in front of the sticks for not rolling away.
Vaa'i with excellent patience and decision making to get a turnover penalty from the kick off..
Arendse knocks himself stupid with an attempted tackle on Rieko's hip. That's South Africa's first legitimate HIA..?
Ref gives everyone a breather of over two minutes so Kolisi can get
major surgerya minor cut wiped away by the waterboy."both sides of the ball" bounced off in a tackle attempt.
Cane shows how its done with a great covering tackle on Kriel forces a knock on.
Two phases from the scrum and DMac puts up a shit kick from our side of halfway to be caught in their 22 and a mark called. Meanwhile we have a clear overlap back on the left where the scrum was... Is this our new attack?
Lineout thrown over the top to Jordie who knocks it back to TJP, to DMac, to Beaudy who draws the fullback and Clarke's in for a second.
Exits ffs. Beaudy kicks out on the full after the ball is passed back into the 22.
Williams decides he's a better scrumhalf than TJP so throws a pass to Clarke on the sideline who wisely passes back in field and Jordie has to punt it downfield. What is it with forwards trying to do work that requires a modicum of intellect? The kick is returned which Jordan knocks on and South Africa have a scrum just outside our 22.
Another 90 second rest period for no reason.
South African scrum getting munted turns 90Β° and ref
penalises themgives them another attempt. Probably because they're tired from the rest they just had.Blackadder is so fucking ineffective at everything he does.
Commentator calls Newell a mobile prop. A bit of humour to start the day.
DMac too deep and a nice kick from the fullback Fassi is regathered. Jordan cleans up but South Africa end up with a lineout five metres out. Kolisi
needs a restgoes off for a HIA.Shot at goal declined for a lineout five metres out. Two hitups by the forwards and TJP is miles away calling for forwards to "get in there" so South Africa obliges and steals the ball.
South African lying on the ground offside at the tackle plays the fucking ball in front of the ref and AR.
How fucking slow is Ethan Blackadder?
Maul clearly stops twice and ref decides instead to give Ofa a yellow card.
Newell displays his "mobility" by being too slow to defend at the ruck and South African barge over under the posts.
Louw says welcome to Ellis Park and sits Finau on his arse. Cane shows him how its done by smashing Kwagga Smith.
Wray, hopelessly out of his depth and out of position, gives South Africa a five metre lineout for a kick that looks to have gone dead.
Ball is lifted by reserve halfback, Cane times his run perfectly. Dimwit with the whistle calls him offside.
de Allende on the All Blacks side of the ruck holds Finau back from covering across and the reserve halfback gleefully takes the gap to score.
Marx comes in and rips the ball while Darry has a knee on the ground. Ardie attempts a turnover but the canny Irish ref sees he was a millimetre offside somehow despite both feet being on the All Black side of the Bok player on the ground.
And with two minutes left on the clock, needing a try to win, Beaudy keeps kicking the ball away.
A final 20mins almost as shit as the South African coverage and refereeing.

Ref was a disBrace. Every 50/50 call was against the ABs. The non tackle on Darry and then the penalty against Ardie were just incredible. That said, the ABs were poor during the second half, particularly BB, Finau and Jordan. Why did BB kick away so many hard won possessions with just a few minutes to play and ABs trailing by 4 points ?
From an experienced player, that was just insane !Beaudie has been doing this for years now.
It's farking insane.
One of the best runners in the game and his brain tells him to do a shit kick every time he kicks it.
Not only that he's lost the ability to get any distance.
2 kicks out on the full then another to touch before the hooter goes.
Gifted possession in good position so many times -

You're confusing activity with achievement. Blackadder is energetic, not effective.

Point me to one of the following:
- A covering tackle.
- A dominant tackle.
- An effective cleanout.
- A dominant carry.
-
I am strangely okay with the result. Not happy but can see positives.
Well done to the Boks for being the tad more composed and methodical in the final 10-15.
Winning like that was what we regularly used to do in the McCaw era.For sure the Boks were missing a few locks - DeJager, Snyman and Mostert, but we were missing one player who I think will have a big uptick on our game when he returns - Roigard.
Our backline attack was far better. Sayonara Leon MacDonald, you won't be missed.
We're pretty bloody good across the positions but a few hard calls need to be made. (not right now but perhaps against Oz)
I actually think the best option at fullback is Ruben love. Tidy, pacy and a good head on his shoulders. He strikes me as more solid and less flaky than Jordan.
Obviously Roigard coming back gives us a great running option from the base and improved clearance. He'll add another dimension to our attack.
Midfield went okay, and I think Reiko's pace is an asset in both defence and attack. However, I am interested in seeing Reiko on the wing and Proctor at 13.
(Canes4life liked this post)
A great positive to come out of the past few games is that Vaa'i seems to be coming of age and Darry is pretty good too. Now we need a big munter in the loose fowards somewhere (Suafoa?). Our front row has great depth, too.
We'll build from here and we are only a smidgeon behind the boks, whom I think we will beat if played in NZ.
Oh, and Kolisi (in regard to your post-match speeches), you're not Mandela or the second coming of Jesus, you're a rugby player.

If we had handled the bomb squad better the ref wouldn't have mattered.
