@frugby I thought he was still under contract next year
Yes so did I, but the info I have is that he is coming to the Highlanders. Think with Shield, Flanders, Iose, Lakai, Kirifi ahead of him, he might have looked for an early release.
And with Gallagher coming, they may even look to play Delaney on the blindside.
It makes perfect sense for Howden to shift. He’s too good a player to not be getting many mins. In fact I reckon he could be an AB 6 in the future, has the size, is a very good defender, solid in the lineout but just needs more opportunity. He’s by far and away the standout forward for the Turbos this year.
If true, it’s a bloody good signing by the Landers.

I don’t like to see players injured but this might be a blessing to the Canes. We need an attacking first five and if it forces Love to go to ten then I’m happy with that. Harkin has looked really good for the Lions in the games he’s started so hopefully he gets picked up aswell.

So I’m thinking the three first fives the Canes will be looking at will be:
- Lincoln McClutchie
- Callum Harkin
- Lucas Cashmore

Someone mentioned in the Stuff comments that Lucas Cashmore is heading to the Canes. Anyone know of that rumour?

it could be true Cashmore or Grindley would have to drop out of the Blues squad to bring it down to 38.
if they both stay they have 18 backs and 21 forwards one to many. -

That’s almost all the Canes need when they’ve got Roigard at 9 calling a lot of the shots.

Wasn't Godfrey an age grade 10?
He was a 1st 5 at school but hasn't played there much since then.
He was the Hurricanes Under 20 first five and won the player of the tournament in that position. He also played three games at 10 last year for the Hurricanes Dev side, aswell as playing 10 for Petone at club rugby the last few years.
He also played very well in a pre season game at 10 outside Cam Roigard when the Canes bt the Crusaders last year.
He started at 10 for HB against Harbour earlier in the NPC and was a bit scratchy and never really got another opportunity because they opted for McClutchie.
I think if Godfrey can get more time in the 10 jersey he could develop into a good ten but he’s more in the Beaudy mould where he uses his pace to create rather than being a conductor so to speak.
