Crusaders v Reds

I remember that game, he started really well then got a bit exposed later.
I think he plays like a very traditional 2nd 5 and could suit 1st 5 in this saders team, with their lack of class there. He needs some time though, he'll make mistakes.
Highlights from that game
Discussion here.
I like this Saders loose trio, all three in their best positions again and no one-trick loosie in sight.

@Duluth Wasn't that a case of good in the first half, bad in the second half?
Yeah at halftime some people were calling for him to be the AB 10 haha. Second half was less good but also the Chiefs pack got on top. Certainly a pass mark against a hard team
Here's the highlights. You can't judge much here, but you can see his involvement in a couple of 1st half tries
-
Havili at 10 just screams of desperation for an answer. Should just stick with Reihana.
On the other hand, it looks like a case of just getting your best players on the field all at once.
Fihaki must feel pretty hard done by with having been dropped for McNicholl last week and now for Halfpenny who hasn’t played any footy at all since his injury, interesting decision.
-
Odd that both wingers have switched sides. Why would you move Reece off his preferred wing?
-
Havilli at First five is a request from outside the Crusaders.

Definitely that, and a call from the AB coach.
To be honest, as I thought in 2020, his best chance to maintain an AB jumper is to be Mr fixit - if he can cover 10, 12, FB he's a very handy squaddie.

McNicholl was fullback last week (Murray the other wing). I presume McNicholl is only comfortable on the right?
[edit] Nope, McNicholl has played left wing a couple of times this year

This is the way the wings lined up in their win v Chiefs
Reece started on the left wing in that game also. -
Do we know for a fact Havili if playing at 10 due to a request from Razor or is this just an assumption that has caught wind?
-
@Landers92 Yes it's Razor , don't agree but true

Just seen Penney interview now saying it. Very interesting
-
Drummond, Havilli, first Test 9/10, think there might be some big casualties come selection time,
-
@Landers92 can you link the interview in?

No sorry, just saw it on prime news. I’m sure 1 news or 3 news will have in on soon if you’re able to tune in.

If that’s the all blacks 9/10 come test time we are in trouble… no chance that’s the 9/10 mate haha

LOL. If that happened I would deputize you all to be part of the Silverfern posse to resolve the situation.
-
I not sure he will be that out of position at 10, he was first receiver wheb playing outside RMo real often. Not saying he won't have to maybe think a little different, but just maybe not too bad.
-
He said in the interview that this would the 9/10 combo for the rest of the season.
-
Interesting even though it is a home game for the Crusaders the referee and both touch judges are from Queensland.
-
Havili has the skills to play at 10 at this level. His talents allow him to be able to play anywhere.
-
Not a great sign for AB selections if he’s considering DH as a back up ten.

Us looking at Razor / Ryan / Hansen's Crusader favourites:

Wait, being decidedly average in 3 positions is an advantage now?

Unfortunately no one is banging the door down behind DMac and a returning Beaudie. The closest would be Harry Plummer - who has a lot more 10 experience but no test experience (visca versca to Havili)

At least hopefully some guns like Harry Godfrey, Josh Jacomb, Lucas Cashmore will be entering the conversation by 2027.

Agreed. It can happen pretty quickly. Cruden went from NZ U20s in 2009 to a genuine test 10 option by the end of 2011. Not saying that's typical but still.

You're welcome, Razor.
He's got all the tools, big boot (be interesting to see how his kicking placement goes), ball skills he uses to put others in space (great wide pass and deft short balls), decent running game, better defence than Mounga and Beauds., ability to take the ball into contact if required (and not just shovel shit). IMO could well be his best position at international level. Fingers crossed.

Apparently, yes.
-
Wouldnt halfpenny be on kicking duty, pretty good % at international level.?
-
Referee: Jordan Way
Assistant Referees: Damon Murphy, Jeremy Markey

@Yeetyaah Junkyard Dog to score 5 tries.
In all seriousness though that Reece vs Tim Ryan matchup could be the most exciting 1v1 this year.
-
Blackadder withdrawn from the game today.
-
..and Christie on the bench. So Christie wasn't injured
