I think it may surprise many Aussies but no-one outside of Australia contemplates bodyline in any way shape or form. -

Cheika has yet to prove is a mental giant at international level given his multiple run ins with officials and his own admission he messed up at the quarter final. He was also the creator of the very successful "we call them New Zealand, not the All Blacks" strategy that was the biggest waste of (limited) brainpower in the last World Cup.<br><br>
More interesting in that link is the continual subtle jabs between Jones and Hansen. As Shag has pointed out England will not play us until next years EOYT at earliest so Jones is content to chip away and talk about the ABs.<br><br>
How anyone could come up with Chieka > Hansen is beyond me. I'm with Henry when it comes to holding off crowning him until he actually wins something. -

<p>When I read Jones' comments about Cheika my first reaction was WTF. Then I thought about it, and Jones is correct - Cheika <strong>is </strong>the best coach in the world. World Rugby says so! :think:</p> -
<p>Well he did win coach of the year, and he turned a bit of a ramshackle Aussie outfit into the Rugby Championship champs, the best team in the pool games at the world cup, and into the final.</p>

Again remembering snatching a test of the ABs at home in a RWC year is something both Connolly and Deans managed just as easily. -

<p>Moores post match interview was bog standard we lost, congrats to the other team they outplayed. No different than anything else offered in about 95% of other post match interviews of the losing captains. Chieka on the other hand was actually very good and honest - he really does come across genuine. </p>

<p>I don't think its as big a deal as you make it out to be. You might remember they're writing to an Australian audience, so they're going to look for the positives.</p>

<p>The only issue I saw mentioned - and it might not even have been in the media - is that McCaw didn't mention Australia once in his post-match interview on the field. Not bog standard
but he'd just won, so he can do what the fuck he likes I suppose.</p> -

If you are going to be as granular as that I can't recall the last year a NZ coach failed to win an away game against their traditional 3N rivals, or lost two games on a EOYT.<br><br>
I guess the proof will be in the pudding soon enough. -
<p>Coach of the year/month or whatever is never just about the results otherwise the winningest coach would always win - it would not be a voteable prize. Many other factors weigh in. What was the starting point? How much did he have to overcome with injuries and retirements? What about the opposition? Plus all sorts of other stuff about the 'journey (c J Mitchell).</p>

<p>From where Aus were when Cheika took over to where he took them in a short space of time, he'd have to be up there for many people's choice as international coach of the year. As would Hansen with the continued success of NZ. The award itself does not make one a better coach than the other, just more worthy at this point in time.</p> -

He took over after a one point loss to the world champion All Blacks and a draw against them earlier in that 3 match series. Their 2014 TRC on the field was pretty respectable given the quality of competition (4 best teams in the world, home and away).<br><br>
Australia were in the same place they are now - in the conversation for 2nd best team in the world. The Gitteau rule should have put them over the top in the short term but hasn't.
