Pretty happy with that effort by the Crusaders a few players stepped up almost got home.We can build on that.
More excuses for coach Penney I see. Crusaders had the rub of the green for large majority of that game and still couldn't get it done in the end.
Pull you head in,the same could be said about the Canes but they scrapped home against a team missing 8 of their front line players who would be in the top 23.
As much as I'd love to retort back at this with something snipey about one eyed Cantab's, I do have to agree with the tone.
Crusaders should be much happier, despite the result, than the Canes.
Hurricanes should have won this easily.
Yeah best team in SR versus second to worst, embarrassing it was that close

But without the laughs

@Machpants the Crusaders can thank Sevu Reece
-
Canes deserved the win. Numia seems to have come of age scrumming wise. Always had the flash Harry stuff but now seems to be doing the core stuff well. Starting Canes front row strong. Brad Shields needs to come back to bring a bit of starch to the loosies,
For the Crusaders a few older heads fronted, Grace, Havili, and Bower esp. in defence. Was Grace's job to nullify Aumua? Certainly seemed that way. Lots to build on. -

Mate I a one eyed Canes man, but even I can feel for Crusaders, and I had feeling last night they are not far off coming right. Especially if they can get a few of their players back. You can see the likes of Havili are getting their rythim back , can still see a few weeks of pain for them, but wouldn't count on too many easy wins against them going forward.

Some of the crusaders players are sooo average. One of those is strange and I’m picking Hannah to go past him in no time.
I don’t get picking players like Heinz, franks, halfpenny in the squad. It’s not veterans rugby.
Doesn’t look like aumua will ever be a reliable throwing hooker.
Canes weren’t great but they got the win.
-
@Billy-Tell I thought Aumua was good for most of the match and then it fell apart a bit in the last 20, O’Reilly isn’t the best throwing hooker either, neither is Bell for the Crusaders.

I agree. Strange is sixty shades of average and if Razor has to pick him its a bad sign about out NZ rugby lock depth.
Apparent Hannah was 90kg and has increased his weight to 114kg

@Frank I reckon Caleb Delany has been one of the higher performing locks in NZ rugby over the past couples years (both NPC and Super). He’s had a great start to the season but probably needs a little more size on him if he’s to push for the ABs. Currently sitting around 115kg.
He missed the game last night due to an HIA against the Blues but he’s one look I hope Razor has both eyes on. Definitely better than Strange.

You cant lose that much rugby intelligence and not suffer. Change was going to come at some point, but it is painful.
That being said, thought their defence and organisation was much improved. However a reminder the game has moved on since the Frank's school of tackling. -

Not so this time, the injuries aren't helping either

Crusaders tighthead prop Owen Franks has been issued a red card by Sanzaar for alleged foul play during the Super Rugby Pacific match against the Hurricanes in Christchurch last Friday night.
Franks was alleged to have contravened Law 9.20b for dangerous play in a ruck or a maul, when he cleaned out Hurricanes flanker Du’Plessis Kirifi in the final moments of the game at Apollo Projects Stadium.
Ex-All Black Franks was yellow carded by referee James Doleman soon after the incident, but upon review by Sanzaar it was upgraded to red. -
@Machpants I wonder if Kirifi got under his skin when he came on. Owen made a shot on Sangster and then smoked Kirifi off the ball. Maybe after Owen's time at the Canes Kirifi was giving the old 'how's your father'. Still a dumb tackle though.

@george33 Lakai is 1.86m and 110kg, defs not too small for test rugby. He's bigger than Ardie and Kolisi who are two of the most influential players in the game. He's likely to get better and bigger so definitely a test player of the future. He's already achieved plenty at such a young age.
A few players have said that trying to tackle Lakai is like tackling concrete so he's built different aswell with his Tongan and African heritage.
