The 2015 Canes team says hi.

Love announces himself to NZ. Before this, you saw the flashes of potential amid some flaky plays. Last night he really was excellent! I thought, "Arrrr.... this is what people have been harping on about for the last few seasons, I see it now".
The Roigard and Cameron duo are in control (keep the traditional Cane back brain farts to a minimum), they have a very strong tight-five that lays the base, and they keep rolling on.
Getting smashed in Chch next week would be great for the competition but you'd have to think they'd steamroll the hapless Crusaders with ease. -
@Old-Samurai-Jack Love looks in great nick aswell, unlike most players he decided to do extra work in the off-season over in Aus training with Australia's top sprinting coach and various league players. It definitely seems to be playing dividends. We can't forget aswell that he was injured for most of last year which delayed his 'announcement to NZ' so to speak. I wonder what's in the water at Love and Roigard's flat, hopefully they can share it with the rest of the team.
In reference to the game on Friday against the Crusaders, I think the Canes really need to go down there and make a statement. The Crusaders are obviously disjointed atm so we need to be ruthless and take that opportunity while it's there.
There aren't too many changes I would make to this team, maybe Shields finally comes in at 6, Sangster maybe comes into lock for the concussed Delany, and I'd promote Numia back into the starting team again.

How fucking high are you?
Ken oath bro.
Must have started watching rugby in 2023. It’s the only explanation.

It's Winger....
Great to see a team finally pay the price for gambling on the 6-2 bench split. Just a shame it wasn't the team in green

@canefan to be fair, it was never really his defence that was an issue.
Many analogies are not entirely 100% accurate...

Only explanation for the closed minded
Here's the 2015 team. That LOST the final at home/ But we will see how this team performs. I rate it highly but too early to tell yet.
1.Reggie Goodes, 2.Dane Coles, 3.Ben Franks, 4.Jeremy Thrush, 5.James Broadhurst, 6.Brad Shields, 7. Callum Gibbins, 8.Victor Vito, 9. TJ Perenara, 10.Beauden Barrett, 11.Julian Savea, 12. Ma’a Nonu, 13.Conrad Smith (c), 14.Nehe Milner-Skudder, 15.James Marshall

@Winger they lost the final yes, but that was the best and most well-rounded Canes side ever assembled. The Canes were utterly dominant that year before being upset by the Highlanders.
Add the injured Cory Jane and Ardie Savea to that side instead of Gibbins and Marshall and there's no argument. You can't seriously compare this team to that team, it would be no contest.

They lost the final. End of story for me.
And it still not a great tight 5. Coles yes but I know you rate Reggie. I didn't. And others were past their best by dates.
But they lost th efinal. Great teams don't do this.

1995 All Blacks were not a great team because they lost the final? Righty-ho.

@Winger losing the final doesn't change the fact that was our best Canes side ever. That's why it's called an upset.
It's laughable you think the current crop could match that side. Yes they've started the season well and I obviously hope they have plenty of success and win a championship but that Canes squad in 2015 was stacked with 13 ABs. (past and present) at that time.
Don't forget a lot of them had success with the ABs at the WC a couple months later.
I’m not saying this current crop can be a great Hurricanes side but there’s still a long way to go.
-
The 6-2 split seemed like a bit of a blunder to me, obviusly having two backs go down stuffed up their bench entirly but the 6-2 forwards split is generally done when you rate your forward pack over theres and want to use your physical avantage to grind the opposition into the ground.
But to the Canes credit their forward pack wasn't bullied at all, the Canes had the edge at scrumtime and in the drivng mauls as well. The 6-2 split only seemed to swap inefficent forwards for more inefficienct forwards.

You're talking up a team who have played three games.
Anyway, the most rounded Canes team was the 2006 side, they'd fuck up both these contenders even without playing a 10.
