@george33 back up to Beauden? Just attempting to stir the pot during rugby offseason?
I suspect George is not a fan of DMac.

I suspect George is a Troll-Bot with the "Mischief" plugin dialed up to 10.

Find it really strange that RM has no desire to play for the ABs again. He would be under his Crusader's coach, he was on the cusp of owning the 10 jersey and really cementing himself as possibly one of our great No.10s. Seems weird, surely there isn't more to it than meets the eye.
Easy to say, but I'll believe it when I see it. Why sign a three year deal then? Perfectly timed for him to return in 2027.
Return as what?
He was clearly our best option at 10 this year, but his strengths were his speed and eye for a mismatch in broken play. Those things will not improve over time.
His weaknesses were his tactical and goal kicking, and his game management - these things will also not improve.
I think he’ll return significantly worse as a test rugby player, and I can absolutely see someone stepping up to take his place.
Fern regulars will know that I’ve been critical of DMac over the years - but I think his game has matured (somewhat), and I think he brings things that I haven’t seen in other 10 options just yet. Golden opportunity to make the spot his own, especially if Roigard kicks on - nothing like a quality 9 to make a 10 look good (and yeah, yeah, the fatties do some things sometimes too, I know)
Should be a fun couple of years figuring it all out!

I'm on board with the rest of the post but geez, that's pretty out there.
You reckon he’ll learn to kick an extra 15m from hand in Japan?

I believe Dmac returned from Japan a more controlled player than when he left, so I guess anything is possible. By contrast, I recall Luke McAlister leaving as the incumbent AB 12 and returning a shadow of himself. So nothing is guaranteed, for BB or RM

I certainly wouldn't rule it out, especially developing his tactical play and "learnings".

@nostrildamus yeah fan of Dmac just not at 10, or at least starting at 10 he'd be on my bench

dont think its too crazy an idea that players don't tend to get FASTER as the age...and speed plays a roles in how he creates mismatches

All very fair points... if we want to crystal ball gaze then, who will be the three 10s at the next RWC, and who will be the starting one?
Gut feel is DMac might end up buggering off overseas in 2025 if he can't nail down the 10 jersey. Barrett will be too old?
I'm guessing Mo'unga, B Cameron & Millar... but I'm not really sure on any of this.

@KiwiMurph aren't we all a fan of Beauden just needs that 10 jersey, Mounga had 2 World cups in it and lost both in the driver's seat simple as that
That doesn't mean Beauden should be 10. Beauden was a distant third behind Mo'unga and Dmac last season as a 10 during Super Rugby in terms of form. He should have been challenged by Perofeta for the Blues 10 jersey if it was on merit.

@KiwiMurph he should have been 10 from the start, Mounga just wasn't cut out to be a test 10 and it was proved in the end
to be clear..BB...who was average at 10 in super rugby...should have started ahead of RM....who was an integral part of the super rugby champions?

I think that Dmac has the potential to be a fantastic number 10, with the only real work-on being his goal kicking accuracy. I'm hoping a season as the starting AB 10 will be exactly what he needs to build confidence of his place in the side and he grows from there.
BB I'm hoping is just an insurance policy as the cupboard is bare after him. His tactical kicking and goal kicking have declined markedly in the last few years and whether he plays at 10 or 15 I hope he spends some time trying to improve these (he appears over the last few years disinterested in taking the primary goalkicking duties for any team).
RM was a great SR player but seemed a little limited at the top level, couldn't quite kick the ball far enough, couldn't quite get his goalkicking % high enough. Sadly in pressure games those 2 things cost you. Wasn't bad and deserved his spot but I certainly wouldn't class him as a great.

D Mac under pressure at First five will be interesting,
I have seen him Panic getting kicks charged down and reverting back to running sideways.
I hope he fixes those things up,as he is way above anyone else we have available now as a First Five option.Next season will be testing for D Mac 2 tests in 2 weeks V SA in SA.
England at home for 2 tests
And a tough end of year tour with potential games. V England,Ireland and France.
