Find it really strange that RM has no desire to play for the ABs again. He would be under his Crusader's coach, he was on the cusp of owning the 10 jersey and really cementing himself as possibly one of our great No.10s. Seems weird, surely there isn't more to it than meets the eye.

Easy to say, but I'll believe it when I see it. Why sign a three year deal then? Perfectly timed for him to return in 2027.

3 years is a long time in All Black rugby. I don't think he could leave assuming he could walk back into the squad again

Calculated risk... but does anyone really see DMac, Perofeta or B Barrett as the long term ABs 10? I'm doubtful. Only real threat is if one of the youngsters (Kemara & Millar the two who jump out?) stun us all by taking their respective games to new heights.

IMHO if he comes back and walks into the starters role, we are gonna be in for trouble in the next 3 years

The fact that B Barrett is getting a new contract, to me suggests the other options are not rated in the immediate term by Razor, and I don't really blame him. Outside of DMac & Perofeta, there is very few players in their prime who are even close to All Black standard (And I don't even think those two are really All Black starting 10s...)

I think DMac could be excellent. Stronger territorial kicking game than we have had in a while...

A hell of a lot can change in 3 years.

Cruden debuted NPC in 08, captained NZ 20s in 09 and started a World Cup Final at 10 in 2011.

Absolutely, but that is why I say calculated risk.

@george33 back up to Beauden? Just attempting to stir the pot during rugby offseason?

I suspect George is a Troll-Bot with the "Mischief" plugin dialed up to 10.

    Return as what?

He was clearly our best option at 10 this year, but his strengths were his speed and eye for a mismatch in broken play. Those things will not improve over time.

His weaknesses were his tactical and goal kicking, and his game management - these things will also not improve.

I think he’ll return significantly worse as a test rugby player, and I can absolutely see someone stepping up to take his place.

Fern regulars will know that I’ve been critical of DMac over the years - but I think his game has matured (somewhat), and I think he brings things that I haven’t seen in other 10 options just yet. Golden opportunity to make the spot his own, especially if Roigard kicks on - nothing like a quality 9 to make a 10 look good (and yeah, yeah, the fatties do some things sometimes too, I know)

Should be a fun couple of years figuring it all out!

You reckon he’ll learn to kick an extra 15m from hand in Japan?
