@Dan54 yeah it was Love. He's the one that's been training with a sprint coach so not surprised he was catching up.

Tell me who Chief's No.7 was last night.

Team naming was some bloke named Parker. What's his story?

Think he played NPC last year for Waikato, correct?

Whoever it was looked seriously physical. Have become an overnight fan.

    He's still only 21.

AB greats were typically already in the side at that age.

But yeah, he still plays a bit like a lightweight kid, so bit of work to do.

@booboo Yes. Simon Parker, but he is a no.8 who plays 6.

    Ben Pruden

    Simon Parker - Chiefs

    Simon Parker - Chiefs

Parker is a physical loose forward with a direct style of play. In his first year out of St Peter’s Cambridge, Parker was named to the New Zealand Under 20 […]

The other thing is - Telea is not overly fast in open space - it's his power and footwork that make him so dangerous but he's not especially quick.

Telea was also clearly not running at top pace...

A few interesting names being bandied about already - hugely prematurely... Jacob Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens? Really? Riley Higgins?? Walker-Leawere? I expect Harry Godfrey will be discussed the second he gets on the field too.

Can see the hype train is in full force.

I like bold calls early in the season. The bolder, the more hilarious. Unless of course you end up with bragging rights.

Yep but that's the fun, go back to last year and you will see me being a piston wristed gibbon and saying I reckoned Roigard had All Black written all over him, and that was after about 20 mins of preseason game in Levin. The fun of getting in early is picking players you think will go well and if they flatten out you can just shrug shoulders. I have been saying for a few years I reckon Fabian Holland and Anton Segner are the bees knees too, but sometimes we have to be patient. I will admit to being in the Cullen Grace wagon too a couple of years back, and not so sure now. There is always a few we don't get right, but it's just on a forum so not important, we don't give out contracts.(thank god) lol

after 3 weeks i am even more convinced than i was 2 seasons ago that we need Finau in our starting pack

i want to watch Ireland running their cute little wrap plays knowing that the guy stopping and popping is going to get laid the fuck out.

FFS pick the guy that just enjoys wrecking fluffybunnies

    @mariner4life

    Impressive live.

    Got some speed too.

Not impressed with brainfart when he laid out Lynagh. Cut that out.

But otherwise he'll to the yeah.

whatever. let the 10 know you're there. it was a fraction late, nothing in it. The cries for blood from softcocks on line make me laugh

Finau was originally a fullback in his early years at high school before moving into the forwards. I doubt it would have been fun tackling him back then either.

I agree. A heartbeat in it. And if you're going to run to the line with the ball, expect to get tackled.

Disagree. It was unnecessary and dumb. Good form on the actual tackle though. Ironically it took Lynagh out of the game and the reserve 10 was instrumental in Reds winning the game.

I kind of laughed, remember being at Athletic Park in mid 70s, Auckland challenging Wellington for shield. First play that Wellington had the ball on attack, Thorn (I think, Auckland flanker) did similar hit, maybe even later lol, on John Dougan and although it cost Auckland 3 points for rest of game Dougan was a nervous wreck and Aucks won shield.

It was one step. Take away the microphone and they'd be nervously tittering behind their handkerchiefs. The moral outrage was because Finau munted him. Had it been a normal tackle, nothing would've been said.

It was barely legal and don't like the idea of putting himself at risk of being officiated out of the game.

I thought it was just the kind of grubby we are looking for in an AB 6 - it was late but was not high and he folded him like a load of washing. I like the idea of the opposition backs having that in their minds.
