All Blacks 2024

I'm kind of wondering if what they've done is pick their starting loose forwards:
Finau, Dalton, Ardie
Picked two guys who can play all three positions to cover the bench: Jacobson and Blackadder
And Sititi in there to see how being an AB works and possibly covering Ardie if he gets injured - Jacobson or Blackadder shifting in if one of the other guys gets injured.

Yes. I can see how they could rate Sotutu but not pick him based on this plan. If Akira had stayed I wonder if he had a chance given he covers 6/8.

Instead of making a call on Jacobson vs Blackadder they've effectively just picked the same player twice
this is really my only concern. And, to add to it, you could easily argue that with DP, they've picked the same player 3 times.
Isn't that exactly what you were arguing for the other day?
My comment is dictated on the game plan being built to suit the top 23, and then picking the squad as like-for-like replacements, rather than "the next best player" which means if option 1 is out, you need to tweak how you play as well as swap guys in and out.
yup. sorta. I would have chosen DP and either one of Jacobson or EB. And then a different 6.
I get that this loosie mix has an obvious plan in mind, i am concerned that the plan seems to ignore the lineout somewhat.

Not sure is this has previously been posted: https://www.rugbypass.com/news/hoskins-sotutus-small-change-thats-paved-the-way-for-a-future-with-the-all-blacks/

Have been thinking after hearing Razor interview on SENZ.
If we assume Finau is go to at 6, then it is unarguable that Sititi's style gels well. Sotutu maybe less so.
I'd argue that, had Akira been the 6 then Sotutu's style would work better than Sititi's.
That said, Sititi at 6 would probably suit both Ardie or Hoss at 8, although the former leaves a very short lineout.

Sititi is the shortest of the loose forwards so you wouldn't want him at 6. He's a no.8 or backup 7.
That said, you can get by in the lineout by using locks or tall props as lifters. Jacobson and Blackadder are used as lineout options by their SR teams.

Now that I've caught up a bit on this thread (have met three of my work deadlines today and yesterday, and then have one more on Tuesday) I find it funny how many posts claim other posters have been melting down (or similar). But, it's been quite tame considering the Fozzie years threads. Have posters just forgotten those threads?
Most of this thread is just posters discussing how a guy who is playing so well can be overlooked (and the inclusion of a foodbill who seems to be Michael Jones in the eyes of some Southerners ), and that's a legitimate thing to do in a thread of this design.

Will do.

The squad has a similar problem at 12 as we do at 6, with no obvious replacement starter if Jordie goes down that could do a similar role. We'd have to change our pattern quite a bit if ALB had to start at 12.
-
Also at 6, we are putting a huge amount of faith in Finau given he's almost completely unproven at test level. I hope he goes well and builds confidence early.

Bring in Dallas McLeod. Problem solved

I don’t think he’ll start. That would be the easiest way to understand the selections.
I think they’ll roll out EB, Paps, Ardie.
Finau might be a bench lock/loosie alongside another…

Just some thoughts.
Quite happy with the squad. A third are Samoans, so can't complain about racism. I believe the picks are more about style of play.
Akira packing his bags reminds me of Luatua. Probably got the word.Am disappointed about Savea not being captain, especially after the RWC final last year, but not surprised at a crusader being captain.
A lot of talk about Sititi v Sotutu, but that's just a distraction. With some of the talk about specialists, how the hell is Jacobson the 2nd best 7 in NZ?

I am most disappointed about Plummer missing out. Surely with DMac and BB in the squad and likely in the starting 15 Perofeta's ability to play 15 and 10 is not as vital. With the dearth of quality 10s in NZ it seems important to start developing now. Plummer to me has more upside as a 10 than Perofeta.
