All Blacks 2024

@MN5 the bike interaction was when I was down there a month ago. Totally separate occurrences. My uncle has a yarn to Razor most mornings at the local cafe down there, or at least when he's around. After meeting Razor, you would never guess he's the AB coach, such a rogue character and is super friendly with most of the frequent locals.
He was meeting people yesterday (two blokes) my uncle didn't recognise and he was in ear shot when he went to purchase his coffee. Could hear them talking about the Canes and the three guys I mentioned but then obv had to shoot off.
Not sure why Razor chose that cafe to have a meeting though because it's boutique and you almost have to shout to talk to the person next to you.

lol fuck you guys cannot be serious. It's not 1995 and Earl Kirton standing behind the poles in a scarf writing shit in a notebook.
AB coaches go to Six Nations games live.
They can certainly make a Friday night game in Auckland and a Saturday afternoon game in Wellington.

Razor sure is a man of the people. I swear every second FB update I see is him in a selfie with someone I know.
( slight exaggeration, but still…..)

why would i be against? I am really confused here.
This is a sophisticated high performance environment. The idea that the choices are "go to go game" or "watch on TV" is idiotic.
They would have detailed film breakdown of every player on their radar. Decisions would not be made on an in-person watch on Friday or Saturday. Those days are long gone.
-
AB coaches going to games is so they can be seen to be doing their job and thus keeping the punters happy. I can't imagine there would be much they could glean from watching games live that they wouldn't get from the technology available to them.
-
the process for getting picked for the ABs is exactly the same as the process for getting picked for Buller...
-
@mariner4life nah, not having a full set of teeth, nor slept with a family member isn't a requirement these days

Buller and Waikato had the same selectors?
-
@mariner4life yep, I am sure they get more of what they need to see from rewatching games than live.
Especially when the footage is coded for them to see what they want and track who or what they want to see.
Going to games is not a must, sure you will see things differently, but without a doubt, the bulk of decision making analysis will be done from footage, not from what they saw live.

I guess I was confused too. i wasn't sure what point you were making but that clears it up
It's interesting that in pro sport despite all the technology there is still value in seeing someone live in person.
You hear about it a lot in US pro sports scouting around seeing a college QB prospect throw live etc.
-
As much as I love data, you can't be sure that a limited number of cameras are going to show the decision making off the ball and how that can shape the opposition's decisions. Even with GPS tracking there needs to be context behind the movement.
Watching live can help cement judgements made on data - especially those players who make the effort to communicate to their teammates.

the eye test is still awesome even in the age of analytics.

Yeah he’s a great character. Hard to dislike the guy tbh.

With the size of the coaching staff these days, I wouldn't be surprised if Robertson didn't recognise them either.

I feel dumber for reading that whole conversation about coaches/selectors attending games or not attending games.
Anyone who has played or coached knows there are benefits to both attending and/or watching on tv as well as rewatching a game back to focus on certain things/players.
I think there is a whole bunch of confusion between everyone there😂
-
Anyway changing the subject. This inane gossip is doing my head in.
Any merit starting with Ratima- DMac Jordie-Proctor
