@KiwiMurph I wonder if the AB coaches will be at both semi finals.

different watching players on tv vs at the ground IMO.

id assumed they'd do both, go to the games and then watch game tape for the more in depth review

You'd think so considering it's their job.

My uncle overheard a convo Razor was having at a local Sumner cafe yesterday when he was ordering his coffee and he was talking about the Canes 7, 8 and 15 which we can all assume is Lakai, Iose and Love. My assumption is that he will be watching those guys with great intent on Saturday.

I was down in Chch for work a month ago and got to meet Razor in person. What a guy he is. We went for a walk one morning and he came flying by on his bike, gave my uncle a high five almost taking his arm off and had a quick chat, which he almost does with my uncle nearly every morning. My uncle isn't someone that bothers Razor too much but he gave me that feedback yesterday being a Canes supporter. Interesting indeed. He probably has three Chiefs players he'll be looking at closely on Saturday aswell.

So one minute he’s stalking him in a cafe the next they’re high fiving on bikes ?

    Something isn’t adding up here

@MN5 the bike interaction was when I was down there a month ago. Totally separate occurrences. My uncle has a yarn to Razor most mornings at the local cafe down there, or at least when he's around. After meeting Razor, you would never guess he's the AB coach, such a rogue character and is super friendly with most of the frequent locals.

He was meeting people yesterday (two blokes) my uncle didn't recognise and he was in ear shot when he went to purchase his coffee. Could hear them talking about the Canes and the three guys I mentioned but then obv had to shoot off.

Not sure why Razor chose that cafe to have a meeting though because it's boutique and you almost have to shout to talk to the person next to you.

AB coaches go to Six Nations games live.

They can certainly make a Friday night game in Auckland and a Saturday afternoon game in Wellington.

Razor sure is a man of the people. I swear every second FB update I see is him in a selfie with someone I know.

    ( slight exaggeration, but still…..)

why would i be against? I am really confused here.

This is a sophisticated high performance environment. The idea that the choices are "go to go game" or "watch on TV" is idiotic.

They would have detailed film breakdown of every player on their radar. Decisions would not be made on an in-person watch on Friday or Saturday. Those days are long gone.

AB coaches going to games is so they can be seen to be doing their job and thus keeping the punters happy. I can't imagine there would be much they could glean from watching games live that they wouldn't get from the technology available to them.

@mariner4life yep, I am sure they get more of what they need to see from rewatching games than live.

Especially when the footage is coded for them to see what they want and track who or what they want to see.

Going to games is not a must, sure you will see things differently, but without a doubt, the bulk of decision making analysis will be done from footage, not from what they saw live.

I guess I was confused too. i wasn't sure what point you were making but that clears it up

It's interesting that in pro sport despite all the technology there is still value in seeing someone live in person.

You hear about it a lot in US pro sports scouting around seeing a college QB prospect throw live etc.

As much as I love data, you can't be sure that a limited number of cameras are going to show the decision making off the ball and how that can shape the opposition's decisions. Even with GPS tracking there needs to be context behind the movement.

Watching live can help cement judgements made on data - especially those players who make the effort to communicate to their teammates.

You often hear coaches saying that they usually just focus on one player when watching live, or one player per half. They look at workrate with and without the ball, decision-making etc.
