I saw Ricky getting interviewed by Jeff Wilson at the weekend and Goldie was towering over him!
There was a game recently when a ballboy passed Riccitelli the ball, and was towering over him. Eklund is short as well.

The latest Aotearoa Rugby pod they discuss how influential Billy Proctor is for the Canes. He's almost a certainty for the ABs this year on form coupled with the fact he's formed a formidable combination with Jordie. Reiko obviously number 1 due to experience but Billy is pushing hard. Anton is obviously there or there abouts as well.
Parsons being a hooker also thinks Asafo will be in the ABs for the next 10 years. Codie as the top dog so will start and he thinks it's currently a fight between Asafo and Samisoni for that 16 jersey. Riccitelli and Bell for ABs XV.

Not suggesting Hotham will go near ABs this year or anything. Mind you I still say I be very surprised if Christie isn't in AB squad as a 9.
I'll also be a bit surprised if Christie doesn't make it into this first selection. If I were Razor and Co. I'd be picking pretty much as much continuity as I could from last year and then slowly ease out the guys I'm less enamoured with (and slowly ease in my newbies). They're going to have at least half a dozen spots for rookies, as it is.**
In the forwards, especially, I'm inclined to think Ryan would have pretty much had everyone he wanted last year. In the backs there's probably a bit more scope for the new selectors to be thinking, "why the hell did they pick him"?
Have they ever said exactly who is on the AB selection panel? I presume Razor and Ryan (forwards coach) - which would then logically suggest Holland (backs coach)?
On Hotham, I think anyone who's starting at halfback for their Super team isn't going to be too far away from the ABs this year. They're going to pick three halfbacks, but then if someone gets an injury....
**I'm a pretty reactionary selector - Razor might be a lot more adventurous!
Razor said in an interview, Ryan was doing tighties, Himself the Loosies, Holland I think midfield , and Rangi back 3. Can't remember exactly, but said he will only make decisions when there no agreement. Was interesting to read him say no real talk with Wayne Smith and think he said they basically had different views.

This only gets attention because there just isn't high quality analysis around. Sky don't care. I hear Rugby Pod is good - but honestly, there's sweet FA in terms of quality assessment.
JK's strategic insights have been 'the boys will really be up for it this week'. I despair.

Fuck me drunk. Parsons thinks Rayasi should be an All Black. I must be watching a very different Rayasi do stupid shit or be lazy. Admittedly he's got the attributes and when he puts in a good performance, it is a good performance. Problem being they're few and far between.

So on the Breakdown last night Kirwan was pushing for Riccitelli to be selected as one of the hookers. He's the sort of guy that doesn't make many mistakes but I wouldn't have him up there as one of the top three hookers.
I thought he said that the Hookers would be Taylor, Aumua and Taukei'aho. But made the point that Riccitelli is reliable and that Samisoni is the most under threat as his form hasn't reached previous levels

That's what I thought when I read it (and heard him earlier). I know they all Crusader's people in long run, but by geez I hope they all on same page with evrything. But you would hope (or pray) that they all got same game plan and so see same requirements.

Fun fact time (from a mate)!
Blackadder debuted in 2018 and has played 7 seasons of Super. He's played 42 Super games. There are two seasons where he has played more than 5 matches.Probably man of the match in all 42 though

I'm putting it out there Dalton will be captain of The all blacks

Over Scott Barrett and Ardie Savea? I highly doubt it with Robertson as coach and hope it doesn’t happen tbh. Dalton isn’t a certainty to start either.
It’s a three horse race between Barrett, Savea and Taylor for me and those are the names that have been thrown around in the media.
Where did Dalton come from? Or is that just Fern speculation?
-
@Canes4life two of your horses could pretty easily be surpassed by younger models in the next 3-4 years and the other is a hurricane.

The ‘Hurricane’ is also the best player in the world so you know there’s that.
Dalton could also be taken over by others aswell so that’s a moot point.
Let’s be honest, is Razor really going to pick a Blue as captain? Probably not. Is Dalton really AB captain material? Probably not. Will he select Barrett as his captain? Probably.
-
Savea hasn't impressed as a captain, and doesn't seem very smart. Barrett also seems pretty thick, but has better results as a captain.

Dalton doesn’t seem the sharpest tool either so is it slim pickings? Dalton just seems like another Cane for me. Solid without being dominant in all facets of what an international 7 should be.
If it’s all based on brains then Taylor probably gets the nod.

Have you got access to their NCEA results or something ? How is Taylor “smarter” than the others ?

Taylor seems a little more articulate than the others from what I’ve seen.
The AB captain needs to be the best in their position. Barrett, Taylor and Savea tick that box, Dalton arguably doesn’t so that rules him out right away. I’m only echoing what’s been in the media. Dalton hasn’t been mentioned as a possibility from what I’ve read. Not sure why everyone’s getting so defensive.
Dalton isn’t even the Blues captain.

This is the guy that does dumb shit every week even in super rugby?
-
@Bones you could say that about almost every player these days…
Barrett and Taylor are proven winners under Robertson so that will probably sway it in their favour.
I'm not too fussed who's captain tbh, I just want the ABs to get back to being dominant like we were 5-6 years ago.

…..an AB captain shouldn’t let Dane Coles get to him either but Taylor did.
Also is he clearly the best hooker ? Aumua has been sensational.

@Canes4life If you appoint Taylor as captain then you need a trusted VC as Taylor won't be playing the full 80 mins.
Using @Tim's criteria, I'm with you on Papalii. He's not exactly Mensa material.
I think it will be SB but the back injury could be a concern.
-
I just think it's rather ill advised to categorically rule out Papalii. But then I guess it does make it tougher for Lakai and Iose to get a shot if he's captain, so I understand the horror.
-
What I'm hearing is that Ethan Blackadder should be captain?

@No-Quarter said in All Blacks 2024 - looking forward:
Cullen had the misfortune of being compared to himself in his hey day rather than against other players, he was definitely the best fullback in 03 but he didn't have much left in him at that stage. I think we could have gotten another season out of him, but begrudgingly can see why they wanted to look forward given his injuries. His treatment by Bitchell was unforgiveable for an AB great to be cast aside the way he was though.
It was Deans, he selected the backline, read Umaga's book he didn't rate Tana and Christian right from the beginning and tried to create a backline consisting entirely of light & gangly Crusaders like Leon McDonald, Aaron Mauger, Ben Blair, Caleb Ralph, Mark Robinson, etc..
