@Crazy-Horse yeah reckons if it's only partial then with good rehab he can get back close to what he was.

@Crazy-Horse Marshall was a different player after the achilles injury
Yeah he was too. Same with Kirwan.

Let’s all hope it isn’t career changing.
-
Just a little bit of analysis:
Our top four opponents are probably South Africa, France, Ireland, and England. Let's look at our records against them in the last World Cup cycle.
South Africa: 3-4
France: 0-2
Ireland: 2-3
England: 0-1-0Where do we need to improve technical aspects or tactics against these larger forward pack teams? Ruck work, kicking game (exits ...), more modern defence?
-
@Tim handling skills and game plan. The last cycle was an absolute mish mash of game plans that didn't mix well ( and probably due to being) combined with awful handling. That's about it for me.
So maybe even just need one of those aspects to not be amateur to improve drastically.

Mate who knows his stuff reckons Roigard is probably patella tendon and if it's a full rupture, then we've seen the best of Roigard already.
I hope this is not the case but it has definitely crossed my mind that he may not be the same again.
I am trying to think of other talents that were looking 'special' before injury curtailed them. The great MJ springs to mind but he reinvented himself and Jonah as well. It's incredible to think Jonah did what he did while he was sick.
Jason Goldsmith? I am sure there is someone I have forgotten.
That ginga lock Ryan, I think?
-
Mike Brewer was touted as a future AB captain, but could never keep fit
-
@booboo Nehe Milner Skudder and Richard Kahui to add to the list.
-
Pointless speculating about this until he has had a scan.
Knee surgeries have come a long way since the time of MJ etc. I wouldn’t be retiring him just yet boys

I’m fairly sure he retired for work reasons.
He then went to the doctors from Face/off for a new look and decided to play for Ireland

We've already seen one halfback fucked by a knee injury. A second in three years would be a pretty bitter pill to swallow.

If you mean Fakatava I think physically he is starting to look better.
-
It'll be horrible if a knee injury fucks him - Roigard is one of the most obvious future stars we've had in a long time.

Agree, but I still think if you compare his speed pre and post, it isn't the same.
That said, touch wood, I think Fakatava's game against the Canes was probably the best I've seen to him since the game against the Crusaders where he did his knee. There were a couple of box kicks that flew too long, but outside of that, he was nearly perfect, and provided a real threat with his running game... and crucially his decision making to run/pass was really good.

@Frank he’s got All Black legend written all over him aye. Just hope this injury doesn’t prevent him from reaching his peak.

I think you need to ease up on the fluffing just a tad
He’s showed some good stuff alright but lets not forget he’s played fuck all tests and couldn’t get past Finlay Christie of all people in the games that mattered last year.
Far too early to throw words like “legend” around.

Im saying by the end of his career. He’s clearly class already. And who’s fault was it that he wasn’t selected for the final? FOZZIE THE CLOWN.

I didn't see the injury on TV but am hoping that both cruciate ligaments (PCL & ACL) and cartilage menisci are ok. These are the main events for knee stability.
The media keep on saying the Patella Tendon could be damaged (attaches Patella to Tibial bone) but am hoping this isn't the case as is a long recovery.
I'm hoping the lateral and medial collateral ligaments connecting Femur to Tibial bones are ok. These heal ok usually.
It could be a sideways Patella flick off tearing the fascial retinaculum and joint capsule. Joint stability is maintained and this can heal.
ACL damage is the nasty one and is usually caused by knee hyper extension. I still remember MJ v Argentina
Praying for a good outcome
-
@BerniesCorner Amen. He is such a key player.
-
I rate TJP above Finlay Christie.
-
-
It didn't look at all good, but not as bad as the MJ injury or the Gerald Willhite or Joe Thiesmann ones in NFL or the David Busst one in football (it took 7 minutes to clear the blood from the pitch after that last one).
-
He had 2 ACL injuries didn’t he?
The one thing that takes the most time with ACL is speed to return.
It took Virgil Van Dyk at 18 months to finally get back to the player he was before his ACL and a large part of that was regaining speed. If you don’t have the speed you once had, you lose confidence and have to change your game.
-
@DaGrubster been there done that! In my early twenties I needed to change my running style due to chronic injury - basically running on my calves when I was lucky to be 70kg wasn't the same as when I was 90kh. One of the hardest things I've ever done.
-
30 years ago it was a career ending injury wasn’t it?
It’s generally considered the worst injury for a sportsman to suffer.
I have had my fair share of knee injuries. You don’t realise how critical they are to everyday life until you can’t use one!! 😡
-
Incredibly sad about Roigards injury, I was really looking forward to seeing how his combination with DMac was going to go this year.
I do hope some-one with flamboyance like Ratima steps up than us settle with someone per functionary like Christie. -
@Windows97 Christie/ Beauden was probably going to be starting halves anyway, with Roigard of bench maybe,

Unfortunately your and collective TSF opinion doesn't count. I fear with MacDonald there, Christie will be their halfback.
-
I as far as I have heard the breakdown of selections are
Ryan tight 5
Razor LFs
Hansen inside backs
Holland MF
McDonald outside backs
With Razor and input from Wayne Smith over seeing it all. -

Source?
You have the inside word on Razor's thinking or imagining it? -

No way, Roigard would have been the top halfback hands down. If not, the coaches have rocks in their head. Christie is just so damn average, anyone with half a brain can see that.
-
Anyone keen to donate?

You know Christie is shit when even the Auckland boys on this forum are very quiet about pushing his case.
-
@Frank well every 1 has an opinion and like a lot I rate him our best 9, with smith gone , Roigard had problems at World Cup and still does, but he will get there within couple years all going well, GREEDY was what I was told

i think Roigard's "issues" at the world cup have been really overblown
-
@Kiwiwomble Don't think so, he's young and will progress but he wouldn't b in my top 1-3 half's at test level yet , sorry Canes fans ,
-
@george33 you think at best he's the 4th best halfback in NZ? i dont think its just the canes fans you'd be disagreeing with
