@Bones I have never seen POM as quiet as today, no niggle - wasn't featuring in lineouts nothing
Our pack as a whole but especially the loosies completely dominated and shut him out.
A game where he should have stood up he stepped back i feelDagg was pretty scathing post-game of POM’s game today.
I know there is this desire to get stuck in, but the way that I think about it is that it was going to take a massive effort against the odds to get the win. We had to really front up or else they would’ve rolled over the top with their second line play.
It was awesome to watch and whilst the heart and nerves were getting a real work out, I’ll take that sort of match every single time.

Not a single knock on from NZ all night 😳
Knock ons were 7-2 (Smith & LF)
Interestingly we lost most of the general play stats (various carry, tackle & ruck stats) but we won the kicking metres: 696m v 878m. It's an area the AB's have been poor at recently

@Nepia I thought the Irish also panicked a bit with those cross kicks when they had the man advantage in/near our 22.
There was space there but it was a bit all-or-nothing instead of just being patient.
As the game wore on and they couldn't overtake us, they reverted more and more to old type; attack became more narrow, more predictable and less dynamic.
The game was pretty fast too, they don't have the fitness the abs do, which is amazing that is still the case

Smith should not have played at it to be fair.
I think that Smith was trying to prevent the pass in his direction and force the Irish player to carry. Still a poor TMO decision as we never saw whether the ball went forward/back/sideways. Spidercam?
It doesn't matter now...

Considering we kicked it 32 times we averaged 27m per kick. Ireland kicked 19 times at 36m per kick. Admittedly we did a few nice chip kicks that did work. It's our defensive bombs which are just fucken terrible.

The contestables were a lot better today. It's interesting because we haven't been strong on that stat recently
If anyone is interested
BB - 336m (12 kicks @28)
RM - 194m (8 kicks @24)
AS - 131m (6 kicks @22)
JB - 77m (4 kicks @19)Plus Will Jordan had two large kicks
Most metres from an Irish player was Lowe with 177m closely followed by Keenan with 176m

Haven't read whole thread - sure someone else will have mentioned it.. but how good were the 3 big hits from ALB when he cam on late?
-
Haven’t read the thread.
Just back from the match. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.
From where we were sitting ABs’ big dogs (Cane, Savea, BBR, Smith, RM & no 1 Barrett) all lifted to an intensity a fairly obviously tired Irish team couldn’t match.
You were noticeably faster to the breakdown and really slowed their ruck speed.
You kicked much better (apart from one truly dogshit clearance by Barrett major about 5 before the end.
And you dominated their lineout.
On top of all that, Barnes finally started penalizing porter for his bullshit - though there were at least 2 scrums where Barnes let him get away with worse.
On that performance, even a team without French doors for props will struggle to beat you.

The one on the AB’s left hand touch line around the 22 was huge. ABs got a lot more out of their bench than the Irish

What can I say except well done New Zealand.
My heart goes out to our wonderful Ireland team but they didn’t have enough against a simply superlative NZ team.
Congrats guys.
That’s classy. As many, many of your countrymen were tonight.
You’ve every reason to be proud of this team. They showed a helluva lot of heart fighting back into the game. But the forces of darkness ripping your heart out of your chest is a cruel but crucial part of the rugby gods’ plan.

Got a question people. Who do I send account to for the heart problems I think I will develop after that game? Think I will need medication to settle it back down!
You just said that all the people who thought the All Backs would lose, or something to that effect (negative) should get stuffed, so I'm just wondering why you had heart problems? It was a sure thing, right 😁?

I think they became increasingly desperate that their systems hadn't broken us down. Then they had no real plan B

Been a great 24hrs. Labour smashed in the election, ABs win a knockout game in legendary fashion, and I’m sitting here waiting for Kylie Minogue to call because I’m clearly getting everything I want.
If you are getting everything you want you might aim a bit higher than Kylie, but I guess we all have our weak spots.

Hope Cane walked up to POM afterwards and just shook his hand and said good game. What an epic performance from the captain. Not only was his rugby outstanding but his captaincy and keeping the team calm in the first half was great.
We never got to get Gregan back for his four more years carry on. But Cane won't mind POM's sledge as much now...
-
Could our weaker pool games actually have been an advantage?
And is Lomax our quiet achiever? I still want Sami, Telea and Roigard back, arguably we just beat the world's number 1 side without our best 23 AND two yellow cards.
While Ireland perhaps deserve a thread of their own for record QF exits? -
Fuck me - those sorts of games are not good for you - especially in the early morning!
Massive effort by both teams.
Last few minutes were interesting - Ireland attacking very conservatively because they couldn't afford a mistake - us defending very conservatively - because we couldn't afford a mistake either.
Commiserations to the Irish supporters.
