RWC Week 3: Italy v Uruguay
-
Poll closes automatically at kickoff
All RWC voting is being counted in a half arsed tipping competition.
1 point for correct result, 3 points for a correct result and margin. No points for a draw
-
-
Uruguay for the upset automatic qualification to the next RWC by finishing 3rd in the pool
-
Hoping Uruguay 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻4points will do😎
-
Bit of a lottery out there. Not sure what else we Italian loosehead was supposed to do….
Penalty try and yellow card... -
Had a power cut here
Just finished the first half
The Eyetie dropped that ball for the tryItaly lucky not to have 3 in the bin in that torrid 10 mins
Game on
-
-
The Italian pushes his own man on to the Uruguayan
Horseshit decision -
Great defence
-
Thank fuck it remains a YC
He should be straight back on after a rubbish call in the first place
-
Italy are clearing the Uruguayan defenders well away from the ruck
Penalty every time
-
That’s two tries from an absolute bullshit YC call
Hope the interweb is fucking up in arms as much as they were for Fiji
-
That YC just after HT was pretty baffling. TMO's fault, Angus clearly didn't like to give it
-
Sure he lost that.
-
Italy playing Gardner like a Stradivarius
2 dropped balls for tries
And the Shittest YC everThis is the worst officiating of the RWC by a fucking mile
-
And no one in the commentary box is even questioning it
I reckon World Rugby have had a word and silenced them
-
Italy well ahead now.
-
-
Uruguay been hard done by two games in a row
Gardner is awful
Always had been
Hope we don’t see him this RWC
A lottery -

A lotteryNot my favourite ref by any stretch, but he was hung out to dry by his TMO today. Appalling performance.
-
-
I'm up to the 36th minute and there could really have been another 3 yellow cards for head contact

And he could also have overruled him

@MiketheSnow surely he has to trust he has a better view of things?
-
Watching the replay. That yellow card to the Uruguayan for "direct contact with the head" was ridiculous. I didn't see any foul player there.

A lotteryWish.com version of Wayne Barnes.
-
The Italians were genuinely losing their shit through this game. Uruguay living rent free in their heads for the first 60 minutes.
Uruguay 6 should have been MOTM

Ideally yes, but it is very rare for a ref to have balls big enough. This is something of a blight on the game IMO. Refs are supposed to be the sole arbiters, backed up by the touch judges and TMO, but it now seems that the TMO is calling all the shots.

A lotteryYeah but you're not neutral.
-
I've only watched the highlights, but the officiating was clearly a problem - again. Uruguay were rightly pissed-off after the final whistle.
I don't know what the answer is, but an acknowledgement from World Rugby that there is clearly a problem would be a good start.

@Victor-Meldrew we have known for years there were currently and would be issues with officiating.

Why?
The TMO is seeing exactly what Gardner is seeing
And Gardner got to see stuff on the pitch as well
In real time, the TMO has an advantageous/better view
Once play has stopped the view is the same
Then it's about interpretation and influence
Gardner absolved himself of his duty - can't blame him with all the reversals and shithousery in disciplinary meetings - but he could have and should have had the final call

Don't have to be
Blind Freddy could see that balls were dropped and the Italian 7 pushed his own man into the Uruguayan 12
-
@MiketheSnow Freddy over Freddie. Hola!

Carley
Carley: Any reason I can’t award the try?
TMO: No, no reason
Carley: No try. -

Not sure the current laws have the "sole judge of fact and law" written into them like they used to.
Need to check.
Think it's far more wishy washy.

FYI First Southern Lapwing try:penalty try and YC against the Eyeties ...
Anyone whinging that it should never have been awarded, and it was a free kick to Italy for deliberately preventing the ball being thrown in 5m?
Lapwings took that lineout at about 4m. Obvious live side on. End on it was horrible.
Awful call.
But doesn't suit the narrative that Uruguay were robbed.
