Uruguay been hard done by two games in a row
Gardner is awful
Always had been
Hope we don’t see him this RWC
A lotteryYeah but you're not neutral.
-
I've only watched the highlights, but the officiating was clearly a problem - again. Uruguay were rightly pissed-off after the final whistle.
I don't know what the answer is, but an acknowledgement from World Rugby that there is clearly a problem would be a good start.
-
@Victor-Meldrew we have known for years there were currently and would be issues with officiating.

@MiketheSnow surely he has to trust he has a better view of things?
Why?
The TMO is seeing exactly what Gardner is seeing
And Gardner got to see stuff on the pitch as well
In real time, the TMO has an advantageous/better view
Once play has stopped the view is the same
Then it's about interpretation and influence
Gardner absolved himself of his duty - can't blame him with all the reversals and shithousery in disciplinary meetings - but he could have and should have had the final call

Don't have to be
Blind Freddy could see that balls were dropped and the Italian 7 pushed his own man into the Uruguayan 12

@MiketheSnow Freddy over Freddie. Hola!

I was using the Aussie vernacular
G'day

A lotteryNot my favourite ref by any stretch, but he was hung out to dry by his TMO today. Appalling performance.
And he could also have overruled him
Ideally yes, but it is very rare for a ref to have balls big enough. This is something of a blight on the game IMO. Refs are supposed to be the sole arbiters, backed up by the touch judges and TMO, but it now seems that the TMO is calling all the shots.
Carley
Carley: Any reason I can’t award the try?
TMO: No, no reason
Carley: No try. -

Not sure the current laws have the "sole judge of fact and law" written into them like they used to.
Need to check.
Think it's far more wishy washy.

FYI First Southern Lapwing try:penalty try and YC against the Eyeties ...
Anyone whinging that it should never have been awarded, and it was a free kick to Italy for deliberately preventing the ball being thrown in 5m?
Lapwings took that lineout at about 4m. Obvious live side on. End on it was horrible.
Awful call.
But doesn't suit the narrative that Uruguay were robbed.

didnt see tha game but this is a bit fucking mad
-
@Kiwiwomble Clear penalty. You can't have more than 15 players in the playing area during play.
