Rebels v Hurricanes

Jeez I hope some of those injuries aren't too serious. Can't afford to lose Thomson for too long. Interesting to see a new centre combination considering its a must win for the Canes in terms of staying with those front runners. A positive in giving guys like Proctor a crack is that it will create competition for places, something the Chiefs are doing really well and thriving on.

I believe there is too much firepower in this side for them to trip up.

Rebels are playing some pretty decent rugby this season.

Canes success will depend largely on how their midfield goes. It has been a troublesome area lacking stability and continuity. I like Proctor's game and hope he goes well this week.
-

For some reason he was named to start last week but then ended up sitting in the stands. Injury setbacks have meant that he hasn't quite reached his potential since returning from the Rebels a few seasons ago. However I would probably have him starting ahead of Jane from now considering Jane has contributed pretty much F#$k all to the Canes back line this season. Too old I say time to give guys like Proctor and Woodward lengthy minutes in the Canes jersey

Currently, Jane's strengths are his ability under the highball and his communication and experience. His weaknesses are that he isn't as dynamic as he once was, and he has never been the fastest. Seems to me that he now fits fullback much more than wing. With Milner-Skudder playing wing for the All Blacks, I don't know why they didn't swap them at the start of the season (let alone when NMS got injured).
-

Am pleased to see Tony Lamborn get the chance to make his Super Rugby debut.

Great to see that Mark Abbott is back from injury and that Tony Lamborn is likely to make his Super Rugby debut!

I'm interested to see how the Aso-Proctor combination will go this weekend.

Same here. I thought Proctor was disappointing last year for Wellington at center but no one has put for hand up so hope he does well. Laumape has done well at 2nd but I guess its just giving Aso a start in a diff position. He was very quiet at center but maybe 2nd is his position

Thankfully Apisai is back as Motu's lineout throwing is a bit rubbish. and I will watch Fatialofa with interest as he seems to be progressing nicely at this level.
-

I thought Halaholo was playing quite well. Seems to be the only one capable of breaking the line with his nifty footwork. I don't think Proctor is big enough to be a centre. Hopefully I'm wrong though. I would be a little bit less nervous if Halaholo partnered Proctor in the centres rather than Aso as two completely new centres is a bit more of a risk going into a game like this.

-

I am sorely tempted to tip the Rebels in my pool:

Pros

1) No Blade Thomson

2) New centre combination

3) Rebels at home

Cons

1) Will Jason Woodward play a blinder against his old team

2) Dane Coles is tearing shit up right now in open play and is more dangerous ball in hand that most backs in the country.

3) Ardie Savea is major catalyst for the Canes and any time he is in the side you would be a brave man to write them off.

4) Who actually can create a line break for the Rebels? Anyone?
-

Rebels:

wow, just checked the Rebels website and seems the excitement machine that is Dan Hawkins has already played 41 minutes over 3 games!
-

Yeah I'm picking a hugely frustrating game that I personally think we should have won by 20 but will lose by 10 due to shithouse decision making.

Edit - oh, and that fucking shithouse ref!
-

I thought you meant Lees and looked it up. Hoffman! The ref that was so bad in the Tahs/Sharks game last year that even Phil Kearns commented that the Sharks were stiffed.
-
I had no idea who the ref was I just know that I will hold him partly responsible for a below par performance from my boys.

Yep from memory in a new and inventive stuff up, he completely messed up when halftime was. He called halftime at next stoppage, so Sharks kicked the ball out. Then the siren went after the ball went out, so he changed his mind and played the lineout....
-

Was that also the one where an old painted out line was called as the 22 and the ball was deemed as carried back?
-

I've tipped the Rebels as well. This game has classic Hurricanes wobbles written all over it.

That, and the Rebels are a pretty decent team this year.

After deliberating I tipped the Rebels but I have no confidence in my prediction. I thought the Landers vs Rebels match would be at least close and it wasn't so yeah I tend to over rate the Rebels.
