Rebels v Hurricanes
-
How passive were the Rebels tonight in both attack and defence?

Canes played very well with Barrett controlling the play pretty well. Their defence set the tone.

Well done Canes. -

After Crotty & Dagg, Barrett also showing tonight that he shouldn't be written off for that black jersey.

Who has written Barrett off for an AB jersey? He's assured of the reserve 10/15 spot.
-

Yep, the Rebels can be niggly as fuck especially at home, so to hammer them like that is very pleasing.

Next up... Chiefs -

I read in the media the suggestion that the ABs "don't need" Barrett, if Cruden has the 10 jersey & Sopoaga on the bench, because DMac would make Barrett superfluous.
-

Defending on the back foot, but on attack the few times they offloaded or looked to put someone else in space they gained easy metres and had the rush defence of the Canes back-pedalling.
-

I wanted to say that but was worried I'd become a grumpy old bugger :)

Yellow team fans should be chuffed with that, especially the first half

I love watching Beaudy - I don't care what he can't do, I thrive on what he does do!

Big Jules has something like 38 tries from 43 (?) tests - that screams incumbent. Don't give a fig what his super form or weight is, he is the AB 11 (but actually he's playing well)

That number 5 Fatialofa is tough workhorse, like him in defence especially in the first half

Provincial players who I never dreamed would be All Blacks when they first emerged - Jane, Beaver and Coles (can't wait for the next one!)

Entertaining afternoon of rugger all things considered

p.s. How can you not be able to fix that pitch after a month?
-

Fortunately the "media" aren't the AB selectors then. Cruden or Sopoanga might fight it out for AB 10 jersey but the AB selectors will have BB on bench before whom ever of them doesn't start due to his 10/15 ability and outright pace.
-
Awesome game.BB unstoppable. Fatialofa played well tirelessly working all game. Gotta be the find of the season so far. Mid field defence was awesome. And the Bus is certainly on his was back. Can't wait for next week.
-
Yes Lamborn on in the 74th minute replacing Abbott.

A Savea is going to be an enigma for the AB selectors I reckon. Has the engine to play 80 minutes and outrageous skills and speed, but basically doesn't suit the modern AB game due his lack of bulk.

A Savea is going to be the BB of the loose forwards. Crazy good ball skills and outright pace against a tired team = winning reserve plus ability to play 79 minutes if Sam Cane is injured in the kick off.

Not sure I agree with that. He has got to be one of the Strongest guys in the comp when it comes to making ground in contact by pumping his legs and going hard. Don't think there is any lack of bulk or other issues keeping him from an AB jersey. Just a guy called Sam Cane who is ahead of him a few years in development/Experience.

Good Win by the canes in the end.

Barret was good and took on the line with good success. J Savea second good game in a row. very rarely goes backwards in contact.

Midfield didn't seems to do a hell of a lot in attack but were solid on defence.

Oh yeah the turf was a disgrace, that is downright dangerous. Was there also one in SA in the recent Crusaders game that was the same? vs the Sharks maybe. Not good enough.
