Best of RWC 2007

Your QF experience was similar to mine (minus the football), except I watched them in Amsterdam with an Aussie and his wife I had met in the pub.
Ignored the Tournament until I got to Paris for the final week. Tour groups of dejected kiwis everywhere.
Yeah, I felt sorry for all those on the Williment tours walking around in their kit. I ended up in the same pub with a number of them (and Ian Kirkpatrick, who was their tour guide) to watch the NPC final.
Other moments I remember include walking past Steve Tew in Toulouse the morning of the NZ-Romania game as he was stuffing his face with a pastry. We bumped into Richard Loe in Paris too.
As I have mentioned previously, the only consolation was making a good profit on my SF and final tickets.

Yeah I had a beer with John Mitchell in Montparnasse. Shorter than I thought

Montparnasse is over a kilometre long, what did you expect?

I've likely mentioned this multiple times, after the loss in the early morning the Magpies beat Waikato in the quarter final of the NPC (AirNZ Cup?) which meant I drove from HB to Palmy in a strangely happier mood than I otherwise would have.
The other match I actually remember from this cup is the Portugal one as we watched it in a bach in Waihi.

@Nepia And all going well they will do so again tonight. Just remember kick off at McLean Park is supposed to be at 1735hrs (NZ Time) tonight so it might be an early knock off time for you!
Luckily I don't work Wednesday so I'll be free to watch from kick off.

Absoluetly glorious day here in the Bay today with the thermometer out on the back porch (in the shade reading 16.5degrees at the moment and practically no wind, which is surprising as the seas breeze normally has arrived by now. Hopefully it won't get too cold come game time with the expected overnight low of 4 degrees not having any affect given the early kick off time. My estimate is that it should still be about 11 or maybe 12 degrees for the game which is not too bad considering some of the mindnumbingly cold nights we have had recently.
HB 17+ with Brad Weber having a blinder
EDIT The breeze just starting to roll in now. Fingers crossed that it does not swing around and come in off the snow capped Kawekas. -

Oh sure, wasn't having a pop at any genuine supporters - just the fluffybunny one who happened to be English on the night.
As an aside, my last visit to Twickenham was bloody great and well done to the RFU for weeding out the dickheads who frequented the place in the past.
Yeah, I guessed that. I was trying to say it might have been two different blokes.

Not a great one for Wales
Gareth Jenkins fired in the car park

I remember this WC for three reasons:
- I've never seen a more loaded squad. That AB squad was phenomenal.
- Wayne Barnes and the dopey fluffybunny who gave him the game.
- I didn't watch a single solitary game after that quarter final.

Absolutely shit house tournament, with the two most boring teams in history in the final. British Isles supporters were at peak chipiness, and the loathing of the ABs was nasty and ubiquitous. Some piece of shit Irish (100% the worst supporters in the world) salesman was in my (London) office and had a go at me about the immoral ABs when he overheard that I was from NZ.
After the QF ended, my brother (foolishly watching the game with his French in-laws in Nice) rang me up crying. My cousin and I watched Red Dawn and Commando, and got very fucking drunk. First thing Monday morning some fat English dickhead in my office, who had never played sports in his life, tried to be a fucking dick about it and was very loudly told to "fuck off and kill himself". What an absolutely shit time, shit tournament, and shit final.
Very similar experience!
I had to head back to HK the next day back to work to my office full of an Irish mafia who were, to a man, complete fluffybunnies about the whole thing.
Worst WC for me, but like Antipodean, didn't watch anything after that QF, so not really in a position to comment ...

Surely you just told the Oirish fluffybunnies to get to fuck seeing as they didn’t even make it into the QFs?
I’m loving this thread as much as I hated the 2003 one. Spunked a heap of coin on a new TV for the quarters and immediately wished I hadn’t after you lot and the Aussies crashed out. had to go without a hotel in Paris two weeks later. Good thing too as we wouldn’t have used it. Got in to CDG Saturday morning with just enough time to tell Sir Clive to fuck off, remind 1999 Player of the Tourney he was master of the marginally forward pass, and drink about a million beers. And watch a few fellas I’d played against win a World Cup.
Third best RWC.

Had similar experiences with Oirish supporters as you did. To balance that, the Welsh supporters were great and genuinely sympathetic after the game and there was a Pom supporter who got decked by a Saffa for goading anyone in a black shirt...
I had a similar experience in 1999 with English and Aussie fans being the worst culprits, while the French were gents.

absolutely ridiculous squad. we may have had better teams, but that squad will be tough to top. Two genuine test level options in every position.

Nothing strange about that, it's impossible to contain one's excitement upon departing HB for to Palmy

@mariner4life the ABs played some of the best rugby ever in the first half of that QF. You should all go watch it again.

i don't watch games we win a 2nd time, let alone a heartbreaker like that
was chatting about this world cup with the wife last night and she was like "fuck you were a miserable bastard to be on holiday with for a couple of days after that, i had to tell you to snap out of it"
It's lucky Poland has great beer.
