Weren't outplayed
Outscored
Nah, that's just wrong. Australia were outplayed. They had 2 real chances of which Kerr both fluffed, and then a wonder goal.
England had almost all the ball, a lot of control and got a totally deserved victory.
Pom commentators though, Jesus Christ. At 3-1 switched to fully "we're in the final" mode ... its like they totally forgot Kerr's goal!
In your opinion
England were more comfortable on the ball and had more possession, but Australia played themselves into goal scoring opportunities and shots on target
They converted one and could/should have had more
England scored at the right times, twice through defensive lapses
So being shit in defense doesnβt count towards being outplayed? Hmmmmm.
England more comfortable on the ball, created plenty of chances and took opportunities when Australia struggled.
In my opinion, thatβs outplayed.

That's called accuracy in my house

What's immediately obvious is how much the standard of women's soccer has improved. Some of the goals were absolute bangers that wouldn't look out of place in a PL highlight reel.
-
@MiketheSnow England ahead in the most important stats, and the scoreboard, but they didn't outplay them?
Thats fine, football's pretty subjective. Given we disagreed on the R16 as well, maybe we'll agree on the final.

Iβll be going for Spain. Those English not very likeable. And the young Spanish striker is east on the eye.
The Spanish are more skilled on the ball than either of these teams. They will have a good chance. But the English played tough tonight
Between the English hard fouling and the Spanish propensity to dive it could be a tough match to officiate.

To be fair, that is one area they did dominate! I think the ref was a bit hometown, so shouldn't have been as one sided, but it was clearly an England tactic to be a bit rough and put them off their game.

Attendances will be about 25,000 short of 2 million presuming they get full houses for the final 2 games. Average of over 30,000 for 64 games. Offloading tickets has to be done through FIFA so people will probably go along anyway and there may be a rush for the 3rd/4th place playoff. Only crowds under 10K were Japan v Costa Rica in Dunedin, Portugal v Vietnam in the Tron, Argentina v South Africa in Dunedin, Costa Rica v Zambia in the Tron and Vietnam v Netherlands in Dunedin. If they have been able to split across 5 centres with a decent sized stadium in Christchurch there would have been no sub-10K games in my opinion.

@NTA think I saw saw 7.1m this morning in an article before Optus..
either way it's still a whopping number for Australian viewers
edit whole article backs up above number (at one point during the game), although accuracy of oztam still in question : https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-08-17/fifa-womens-world-cup-matildas-england-tv-audience/102741074?utm_campaign=abc_news_web&utm_content=link&utm_medium=content_shared&utm_source=abc_news_web
