2023-2024 World Sevens Series

When you consider after two games we couldn't beat Canada in regulation and got smacked up by the Arge it's a good result.

So as the title is decided by knock out next round, men's 7s could still be champs this year, right? Just gotta win next leg, as all the rest has just been seeding
I don't quite follow, but it seems like it's a separate comp almost. The "league, and then the "FA Cup".
The latter based on seedings from the league.
Kinda like the A-League soccer trying to make more of the regular season.
But SVNS is trying to make an event of the knock out comp.
I think.

I guess think of it like super rugby, a team wins regular season round robin, but then you enter the finals series and a winner emerges from that

As per the A League Premier's plate and the NRL minor premiership trophy. It feels like a separate competition, albeit an invitational one

Well you don't get invited unless you make the top 8.... eerily similar to a finals series.

I feel a bit of the fizz has gone out of the sevens this year with standards dropping quite a bit. I don't think the format has done the men's competition any favours, but the womens does seem improved.
Countries like Fiji, South Africa and NZ just seem to be going through the motions quite a bit, knowing they can still be champs if they scrape into top 8. Quite a bit of luck in the 3 pool thing too. I feel it was far better with 16 teams and with a chance to blood newbies against a weaker team. All so sudden death now and maybe that is why the play is more conservative and less spectacular. And less colour on the sidelines. Where are the Fijians?
How do others see it?

I don't like the 3 pools. The qualification for the QFs always felt a bit off.
There are fewer easy games which is good for early part of the weekend. I think it leads to a more attritional tournament though. Without following too closely, it seemed like more injuries and more energy management from teams

Yeah probably simpler and more bitter for me. Fucking Ireland being so highly placed.

fizz has gone
Crowds really small across the board it seems.
